Open-night skating festivities scheduled for Nov. 18 have been indefinitely postponed due to warm weather.

Don't try taking pictures at Frog Pond

Cat posts a cool photo of kids under the spray at Frog Pond, then adds this account:

as we were taking some pictures, a member of the staff, guarding the pond came up to tim saying it is "not cool" to take pictures of kids. they told him he was not allowed to take pictures, "especially of the children". he then asked to see the regulations for that, and the guy answered "do you really want that?" "well, yes" so then he was brought to another guy, who simply stated the same. they then even said that he "could get into serious trouble". well, thats just sad.... do they also prohibit parents taking pictures? another kid might end up on their picture! and what about people without cameras, but also without kids, watching all those kids play, because it is such a lovely sight? can they get into serious trouble as well?

Tim himself reports the intimidation worked - he stopped taking pictures.

Frog Pond closed to waders

NotifyBoston alerts us that Frog Pond is closed today because of yesterday's rain - too much debris and dirt got dumped into the pond by the storms. Could be open tomorrow, but call first: 617-635-2120.

Keep the carousel

Richard Beaubien reports the Frog Pond carousel was originally supposed to be up for a two-week test go-round. But it already seems like a Common tradition:

Right now it's only running until about 9pm. Still it's a really nice addition to summer evenings. Word is if all goes well, it may become a permanent fixture. How can you help? Well if you're down there spend a couple of bucks to put the lid on the ride. And call 617-635-2120 or email bcfpond@yahoo.com. Let them know that you like it.

Boston Common's erudite frog

The playground next to Frog Pond on Boston Common is decorated in a frog and tadpole motif. Mark O'Neill wonders why the frog sitting atop the Tadpole Playground entrance is holding a test tube.

Ed. ribbetting note: It used to be a party toot-tooter (2004 Frog Pond photos, including one of the frog), but, of course, somebody had to go and rip the top of it off.
