By the time the middle-of-the-packers started hitting Washington Square in Brookline today, you could tell an awful lot of people were running on sheer willpower alone.

John Daley stationed himself at Cleveland Circle for these great shots.

Kurt in Boston posts photos of the leaders at Heartbreak Hill (more Heartbreak Hill photos).

Helga wondered why the hell one reporter was trying to interview runners at Heartbreak Hill:

... The runners he tagged seemed pretty easy going. Were they too tired to fight him? In this position, I don't know if I could handle the questioning. I'd either be rude ("Why are you talking to me? Can't you see I'm trying to run a marathon, you idiot?") or so tired that I'd lose control of myself and burst into tears. Either way, not pretty. ...

Michael Femia posts photos from Brookline. Il Filosopho also snaps Brookline pics.

Sandy posts photos from Back Bay.

Miss Von Schtoop: Running a marathon is something I have no plans to ever try.

These women cracked me up. Whenever they saw a male runner they thought was hot they'd yell "I like!" in Borat-ese:

Tom in Boston recounts a long-standing tradition in his family. Perfect reading for a day like today when the Sox might not play.

Of course, everything could be wiped away in a Nor'easter of epic proportions (and wouldn't Harvey Leonard be ecstatic?), but just in case:

Adam Weiss podcasts from the offices of the Boston Athletic Association, all about the race, of course.

Beth puts up a slide show.

The Red Sox Chick was there with a camera, too.

Dan Dunn posts photos as well.

Cute little Sox fan.

Crank up the volume and listen to Gil Santos broadcast opening day for the Boston BruinRedCelts:

Swing and a foul tip off the backboard, rebounded by Varitek! He fires a screen pass ... Second down and seven, one strike and only six seconds remaining, Brady Matsuzaka winds ...

It might look like The CHB Blog:

... Many people are surprised to learn that long before I was a world-class sportswriter I was one of the Campbells Soup Kids. ...

Via Dan Shaughnessy Watch, which today tallies up just how many times the CHB has used that "Sons of (current manager's name)" thing over the years, and adds:

Coolvalley posts a bunch of photos of our new national treasure in action in Kansas City today (along with a photo of the Royals' mascot, which I was going to make fun of because it's weird looking, but then I remembered that our mascot is a fuzzy wall monster).

Beth proclaims: Dice-KKKKKKKKKK.

Nothing, of course, will ever top the 2004 Fenway Park ad.

Or the Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee:

How do you say Dunkin' in Japanese?

Daisuke Time starts at 2:10 p.m.

Beth is happier this morning:

... There were a few mishaps early, many of them revolving around Manny playing left field like he was blindfolded--but in the end, the Sox finally seemed to stop hitting the snooze button and finally started playing some good baseball. ...

Red: Suddenly, everything is right again in the universe.

Chris Monks fills us in.

Curt Schilling tries to figure out what happened:

Not sure where to even start. Two words sum it up best, no command. Can't remember a game where I couldn't make adjustments but today was certainly one of those. ...

Soxfan to Schilling: Less blogging, better pitching.

Ravi Jain drives around town as he interviews Phoenix Sox writer Mike Miliard about Dice-K - with a Japanese interpreter in the back seat, who informs us that "I love Daisuke" in Japanese is "Daisuke daisuki" (which sounds like "Dice-K Dice-kee").
