The Dorchester Reporter reports on an incident Monday night in which a man was assaulted by two men who also yelled "racial and homophobic slurs" at him near the Butler Street stop - and then tried to pull him off the trolley.

A teenager was arrested this afternoon on charges he punched the operator of a trolley about to leave Mattapan for Ashmont, the MBTA says.

A spokeswoman said the incident happened around 2:15 and that investigators do not yet know why the teen decided to punch. The operator was taken to a local hospital for a non-life-threatening facial injury; the teen was nabbed nearby.

The MBTA has installed a signal system at Ashmont that will keep Mattapan trolleys from leaving if a Red Line train is about to pull into the station.

T spokesman Joe Pesaturo said the system comes in response to complaints from Red Line riders who would get out of their train just in time to see a trolley pulling away.

T to roll out guaranteed parking spots at Braintree and cut prices at unpopular lots

The MBTA says that starting July 1, it will start offering "premium" parking spaces for $200 a month at the Braintree Red Line stop that will give purchasers guaranteed spots near the station entrance.

The MBTA is promising noise-weary Ashmont residents relief from the loud screeching of Mattapan Line trolleys at the loop at Ashmont station - in the form of special quilted blankets to be fitted around the wheels - the Dorchester Reporter tells us. The Reporter says MBTA General Manager Richard Davey last night promised to keep meeting with residents until the noise from the new loop is fixed.

NECN reports the MBTA is going to use the Mattapan Line as a guinea pig for a collision-avoidance system that uses radio waves to detect other trolleys and begins to beep insistently if the trolley operator gets too close. If it works, the system could be deployed on the Green Line.
