Boston Assistance Agencies receive $737,278 from Project Bread to Relieve Hunger in Tough Times

A large gift of funds has been awarded to Boston-area hunger relief agencies to support their work throughout the long winter ahead. Project Bread, the state’s leading antihunger organization, distributed $616,825 to 91 emergency food services as part of its annual Appreciation and Grant Award Ceremony at the Colonnade Hotel Boston last night.

2009 Walk for Hunger on Sunday, May 3
In the midst of the steepest economic downturn in fifty years, Project Bread’s Walk for Hunger on Sunday, May 3, takes on urgent meaning for those struggling to put food on the table. “We have never needed it more,” says Ellen Parker, the executive director of Project Bread, the state’s leading antihunger organization. “This year, we’re asking everyone to do something to help. Every dollar, every mile, and every volunteer hour counts.”

Boston most generous city when raising funds for hungry
Boston Residents Nourish Food Programs through Walk for Hunger
Boston was named “most generous city” by Project Bread, the state’s leading antihunger organization, for its contribution of 4,000 Walkers and nearly a half million dollars to fight hunger through the annual Walk for Hunger.
This effort allowed Project Bread to contribute $648,000 to 92 area food programs and a total of $909,559 to these and other hunger prevention programs that are helping hungry families in Boston cope with the economic crisis right now.

EAST BOSTON — Struggling families and elders have support to help them obtain food stamp benefits in this tough economy. Project Bread, the state’s leading antihunger organization, has granted $15,600 to Action for Boston Community Development – Child Care Choices of Boston (ABCD), a community-based organization providing over 6,000 low-income families with access to child care. The grant enables ABCD to help more families take advantage of the federal Food Stamp Program.

November 20, 2008 — EAST BOSTON — Struggling families and elders have support to help them obtain food stamp benefits in this tough economy. Project Bread, the state’s leading antihunger organization, has granted $15,600 to the Cambridge Economic Opportunity Committee (CEOC), a community-based organization offering advocacy assistance for individuals and families who are or may be eligible for federal or state benefits. The grant enables the CEOC to help more families take advantage of the federal Food Stamp Program.

November 20, 2008 — EAST BOSTON — Struggling families and elders have support to help them obtain food stamp benefits in this tough economy. Project Bread, the state’s leading antihunger organization, has granted $15,600 to AVANCE, Inc., a community-based organization serving the Latino population in East Boston. The grant enables AVANCE, Inc. to help more families take advantage of the federal Food Stamp Program. The money is part of $229,800 total funding Project Bread recently granted to 18 community organizations to promote food stamp enrollment throughout the state.

November 20, 2008 — EAST BOSTON — Struggling families and elders have support to help them obtain food stamp benefits in this tough economy. Project Bread, the state’s leading antihunger organization, has granted $30,600 to the American Red Cross, a community-based organization serving 300,000 people across 127 cities and towns in eastern Massachusetts. The grant enables the American Red Cross to help more families take advantage of the federal Food Stamp Program.
