David Gregory doesn't seem to realize he's not a candidate. He spent the first 15 minutes on the "character" issues that everybody in Massachusetts already is sick to death of. He decided that immigration is a more important issue than jobs. His toupee is too obvious.

Woof!

Roving UHub photographer Gretchen Van Ness reports this morning from Centre Street in Jamaica Plain, where she saw:

David Bernstein is keeping a list.

Huffington Post reports the Mass. GOP barred a Globe reporter from a vote last night on whether to adopt a state platform that would include a call for ban on all abortions, even in cases of rape and incest, and which would come out against same-sex marriage.

You'll be one of the few and proud, in today's generally low-key Thursday primaries. Some Boston-related races (all Democratic, natch):

Maura Hennigan vs. Robert Dello Russo, Suffolk County Superior Court Criminal Clerk. They hate each other.

Complete text of Deval Patrick's speech at the Democratic convention:

Mitt Romney talks a lot about all the things he's fixed. I can tell you that Massachusetts wasn't one of them.

The Globe interviews both candidates for Suffolk County register of probate, but fails to explain why this office, which oversees the filing of papers in divorce, will and adoption cases, still forces voters to decide who should hold an office that has no policy implications whatsoever.

Seems the Green Party is having primaries, too, but so far Jill Stein is doing a bit better in them than Romney is in his.

At the end of an interesting look at the life of a Massachusetts poll worker in a presidential primary, Mike Ball reports:

Another oddment that voters don’t know yet is that the September primary election will almost certainly not be on the logical second Tuesday. Because Labor Day is the previous week and many travel before or even during that time, the second Tuesday is the normal one. However, this year, it would be 9/11, a date fraught with history and emotion.

Michael Burstein, a Brookline library trustee, science fiction writer and ardent supporter of Pluto's role as the ninth planet in our solar system, is setting up an exploratory committee to consider becoming an obstacle to the Kennedy Inevitability in the Fourth District, Brookline Patch reports.

The Patriot Ledger reports the chairman of Progressive Insurance has contributed $525,000 to a group pushing a ballot question to legalize the medical use of marijuana here. The group has raised $1,167 from other sources.

The Dorchester Reporter breaks the news on City Councilor Sal LaMattina's ruminations. Like the city clerk's job, the register job has traditionally been a haven for city councilors who want to move on - if he runs and wins, LaMattina, who now represents East Boston, Charlestown and the North End, would replace Richard Ianella, who retired last year.

That would, of course, be disgraced former Chelsea Housing Authority director Michael McLaughlin, whom the Globe reveals was just a bit more than the "campaign volunteer" Murray said he was - and that worrying about McLaughlin may have kept him up and led him to doze off on that Crown Vic-smashing ride.

Ripped from today's Herald: Are 'Joe for Oil' ads lubricating Joe III's run?

Perfectly valid question to ask, but nowhere does the story suggest that Joe4Oil has suddenly ramped up his omnipresent ads now that his kid is thinking of running for Congress, although it does note he's been thanking the people of Venezuela on TV for years now.

The Herald reports that, yes, Joe Kennedy III is running for Barney Frank's 4th District seat.

By adamg - 12/13/11 - 7:53 pm

Sets up exploratory committee for possible run for Congress in the 4th District. Legally, he doesn't have to move to Newton, or wherever, but in practical terms, if he runs, he's outta here.
