Die-in in Central Square, Cambridge

Central Square die-in. Photo by Central Square.

Protesters started at Tufts University, blocked up Davis Square, where the T shut down the subway station, then moved down Mass. Ave. to Porter and onto Harvard, where a large contingent of T cops blocked the portal into the busway and then had the gates to the main pedestrian entrance to the station locked. As protesters moved down JFK Street, the entrance was re-opened.

Around 6:25 p.m., the vanguard of protesters was approaching Central Square.

This is not a screenshot from that game. This is Hannah Malenfant's photo of the Red Line platform at Porter Square around 12:45 p.m., after the lights went out. Yes, the escalator stopped working, too, she reports.

Siderea was not happy when the Porter Square Star Market charged her $2.89/lb for chicken that was advertised on sale at $1.79. She was even less happy after the cashier argued with her, told her to visit the (closed) customer service desk, and then re-rung the purchase at various prices ranging from $3.11/lb to $3.97/lb.

Now she's wondering who else has been ripped off -- and judging from the comments on her LiveJournal post, quite a few other people are unhappy with Star Market, in Porter Square and elsewhere. She helpfully links to the relevant state law and explains how to file a complaint.

Updated

At least two trains died on the Red Line this morning, one around 6:30 a.m. at Porter and another a little more than an hour later just outside Alewife.

It was the latter death that bollixed up the morning commute. At 8:19 a.m., Jessica tweeted:

Commuters have been waiting at N Quincy since 7:35am. When will there be room on the #mbta to get on? #freezing & it's not even snowing yet.

Around 6:40 a.m., Orange Line riders heading into town from the north got to join in on the fun when one of their trains died.
