Proposed 400 Belgrade Ave. project in West Roxbury

The new owner of a long vacant gas station on the triangle where Belgrade Avenue, Beech Street and West Roxbury Parkway come together has filed plans with the BRA for a four-story, 20-unit residential building.

John Douros - who worked at the gas station as a teenager - had originally filed plans for a five-story building that neighbors decried as too big. Read more.

The BRA today approved the Dot Block complex, which would replace a series of low-slung storefronts and industrial buildings at Dorchester Avenue and Hancock Street with 384 apartments, 60,000 square feet of retail space and a 450-car garage.

A developer whose office is in the heart of FiDi has filed plans with the BRA for a four-story, 36-unit residential building at 55 W. 5 St. at the corner of B Street that he will market under the name SOBO Place. Read more.

Developers have filed plans with the BRA for a 49-unit, five-story condo building at 3193 Washington St. at Montebello Road - across the street from a proposed 73-unit residential building.

Developers Fred Starikov, Stephen Whalen and Josh Fetterman are proposing 24 parking spaces - and 58 bicycle spaces - for a $13-million building they say is an eight-minute walk to Green Street and Stony Brook on the Orange Line and an easy walk to pretty much everything else that makes JP JP. Suffolk Construction proposed expansion

Suffolk Construction has filed plans with the BRA to build a $22-million, 38,000-square-foot expansion to its 65 Allerton St. headquarters, starting with tearing down four old warehouse buildings. Read more.

Proposed downtown tower

The New York developer that has been figuring out how to put a skyscraper at the intersection of Washington and Bromfield streets last week released a series of renderings of a building that would rise higher than the Millennium Tower and have a series of rooftop gardens and possibly solar panels.

Midwood Investment and Development is proposing a 59-story, 683-foot-tall building with 300 apartments - 54 affordable - topped by 119 condos. The residential units would sit on a five-story base that would include ground-floor retail and a garage for 235 cars and 420 bicycles. Read more.

Proposed Temple Street development on Beacon Hill

A developer last week filed detailed plans with the BRA to convert two former Suffolk University buildings on Temple Street behind the State House into a 75-unit luxury condo development.

JDMD Owner, LLC, of Dedham, says the project will meet what it says is "significant need" in Boston in general and Beacon Hill in particular, for "high-quality housing," as well as rid the neighborhood of some of those annoying college students. Read more.

Here is how it worked:

The Boston City Council, in 2004, approved an Order extending certain Urban Renewal Plans until April 30, 2015, and also enacting "a series of procedural changes with respect to Urban Renewal Plans in Boston” consisting of changes in the Council's Urban Renewal Plan review process, so as to retain only the powers to vote on initiation of new Urban Renewal Plans and termination of ongoing Plans, and deleting from Council jurisdiction extensions of expiring Plans. As you know, the City Council (despite having lost its power to vote on extensions) voted on March 23 to approve the BRA's requested 6-year extension for the 14 expiring Urban Renewal Plans. 2016. The BRA can get a seventh year as a "minor modification" without Council approval, as it got an eleventh year for the current extension. This will no doubt be followed by another lengthy extension. The company that now owns the former Quinzani Bakery and Ho Kong Bean Sprout buildings on Harrison Avenue in the South End today unveiled plans for 14-story building with 280 apartments and condos and ground-floor commercial space.

Related Beal's proposal for 370-380 Harrison Ave., filed today with the BRA, also calls for a three-deck, 180-space underground garage on the one-acre site. Read more.
