On the Red Line, giddy up and go is now giddy up and went as riders pour into stations, where they are forced to just stand there due to a train that died at Central Square around 5 p.m. At 5:41, Kathleen Mulligan reported:

The Massachusetts Appeals Court ruled today that Stephen Trychon, let go from his MBTA job in 2013, is protected by the state whistleblower law and will get a chance to pursue his lawsuit alleging higher ups forced him out after he annoyed other, politically connected T officials and workers by exposing risky working conditions, possible contract fraud and dangerous track conditions that had gone unfixed for six years. Dog in a tow truck in Central Square, Cambridge

An MBTA bus broke down on Prospect Street in Central Square this morning. Daniel watched the crew that towed it away.

Adele canceled at Quincy T stop

Rumor has it Adele is going to do an impromptu concert there. Transit Police say the rumor is false:

Adele is NOT showing up to Quincy T station. She is playing at TD Garden only.

Tree interfering with a 71 bus

A train is so dead between Braintree and Quincy Adams that the T is now running shuttle buses. On the Green Line, meanwhile, an E trolley has expired at Government Center.

Problems at Maverick station on the Blue Line in East Boston

UPDATE: Trains began running again around 9:20, but with the ever popular residual delays.

Tim Lawrence is among the people who showed up at Maverick Square this morning figuring they'd get downtown pretty quickly. But that was before the Blue Line developed what the T calls "a power problem" and now there are the dreaded "severe" delays. Read more.

A 17-year-old Boston University freshman died when he was hit and killed by a train on the Worcester Line tracks under the turnpike early this morning, Transit Police and BU Today report.

He was hit around 12:15 a.m. The tracks run along the BU campus.

His death is under investigation, but foul play is not suspected, police say.

This MBTA video from Milton shows a Mattapan Line driver tying up a leashed dog that had followed a passenger to the station so it wouldn't get hurt - and the owner showing up to find the dog just as the trolley pulls away. Around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
