OK, kiddies, word from our bike czarina Nicole Freedman is that the share is on. Tuesday, 7/26 at 11 AM Eastern, Tom Menino will grab the first Hubway bike out of the dock (hope he has his credit card) on City Hall Plaza.

I'm still skeptical, but, hey, this is on sked.

Balance is something we strive for in our life. We see it in how we try to manage work and our

personal life; balance between consumption and preserving the environment; balancing disruptions and getting tasks done; and in our personal health versus stress. The list is extensive. By and large balance is a very difficult goal to achieve; this assertion could be made anywhere in the world.

So here is something to consider about balance you may not have thought of; 1) the most important balance in our body is pH balance; while that may sound simple, achieving it is like trying to balance yourself on a tightrope (ok perhaps not that difficult but it might seem that way) but certainly as challenging to achieve balance in other areas of our life; 2) alkaline and acids make up these two very important chemical that represent this balance, which also influence many other activities that occur in our body.

A bit more understanding migh make you more conscious about your eating decisions and thereby resulting in a happier healthier you.

Mayor's snowjob on snow removal

"Another 18 inches on top of what we have is going to create a real strain on Public Works' ability to keep doing the job they’ve been doing. They've done a good job removing snow, but 18 more inches will narrow each street by a foot, foot and half."

"A good job removing snow"? Funny - when I surfed the Citizen's Connect recent reports a day after the storm, there were dozens of reports coming in of unplowed streets. Surf the reports now, and you'll see reports of all sorts of snow removal problems.

All the bike lanes around Boston (5 feet wide, roughly) disappeared for days- even the ones with snow emergency parking bans like Centre Street in JP. Until late last night, Hyde Park Avenue had several feet of snow coming out into the roadway. South Huntington Avenue has piles of snow 4-5 feet high sticking out 5-6 feet into the road. As I type this (days after the storm passed, a storm which fell most overnight), my street has more than three feet covered with several inches of snow on the side where there's no parking. Citizen's Connect is rife mostly with unshovelled sidewalk reports, but also cases like this.

We Watch TV FIVE HOURS a Day on Average... WHAT?

Covering technology events is a breeze, but sometimes - as with today’s #TVNext panel in Boston at Hill Holliday - you sometimes run into a challenge. Today's event is a challenge for me because I've already heard some astonishing facts and it's only 10AM. We now watch TV five hours a day, on average, in America.

Let me paint the picture and then I'll share where that five-hour figure came from.

Sitting on the 35th floor at a State Street high rise, about 100 or so broadcast pros, media reps, social media folks and marketing people have gathered to hear where TV is headed. Specifically, they are anxious to find out the new ways in which viewers consumer content and embrace entertainment.

As they approach the dock I can kind of tell that the captain, or acting captain of the vessel, is not the sharpest sailor on the sea. He misses his approach and is forced to place the vessel in reverse(missing the 30 feet of dock before him). It was not a terribly embarrassing moment- though you would never be able to tell from the apparent"spouse's" reaction towards me. Crewed with three people I thought for sure that they would have someone among them, who could safely and efficiently dock. Nada uno.

Communilytics - Counting Community Activity at E 2.0 Conf

Still at the Enterprise 2.0 Conference at the Westin Waterfront Hotel and I'm now in a Communilytics session. What are Communilytics? Well, it's actually the measurement of community numbers. So, how people in a community-based group, like Twitter or Facebook or even blogs or Expedia or other online areas-respond and react to each other and the platform itself.

Essentially, measuring communilytics is like finding out what people are doing on your sites and understanding how people are connected to other people and who the influencers are.

I may have mangled the description, so here is the slide deck from the presentation (this one was given 6 mo. ago at another conference, but the info hasn't changed).

E 2.0 Conference 2010

Another week, another conference. Boston might be a tourist destination, but if the activity down by the Waterfront is any indication, trade shows and technology events are increasingly being drawn to our fair city.

Right now I'm sitting in the Grand Ballroom at the Westin Waterfront listening to two folks from Hurwitz & Associates talk about Cloud Computing. Wait! Before you nod off, or slip out of your comfy seat on the T if you're reading this on your way to lunch...this stuff IS cool.
