Boston Police tweet the Sovereign Bank at 780 Gallivan Blvd. was held up yesterday afternoon. The robber passed a note, but didn't show a weapon.

Novel way to buy an ultrasound machine

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Paul Levy is running an online auction to help the Bowdoin Street Health Center in Dorchester raise the money it needs to buy an ultrasound machine, so that pregnant women could get examined in their neighborhood, instead of several miles away at Beth Israel.

Among the items up for grabs: An overnight stay at the Four Seasons, a baseball signed by Luis Tiant, restaurant gift certificates and a two-year family membership in the Show of the Month Club. You can bid through 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9.

Levy writes he hopes to make a monthly event out of the auctions, each benefiting a different BI-related effort.

Celebrating 50 years of tenpin in Boston

On Saturday, Boston Bowl in Dorchester rolls down memory lane, by returning its prices to what they were when it opened then - 50 cents a game (tenpin or candlepin, your choice), along with 50-cent pizza, burgers and drinks. So see if you can spare some time between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., unless, of course, you think they're out of your league.

Black teen males targeted for holdups near Ashmont station

Boston and MBTA police say four teens have been held up on the streets around the Ashmont MBTA station since Oct. 22, with their assailants going over cell phones and wallets. The first three robberies, which involved between two and four black male teens, were unarmed. But on Oct. 31, a teen was mugged at gunpoint by another teen who took his Sidekick.

Man shot to death, school locked down in Dorchester

Boston Police tweet a man was shot at Bowdoin and Westville streets in Dorchester this morning. He has since died. The Globe reports the Marshall School went into lockdown mode as police looked for the shooter.
