Loss of innocence in a Dorchester gym

Somebody's Daughter reports her father's house is right next to the John Marshall School in Dorchester, where an alleged gang member was shot the other night. She says he was confused because he didn't hear anything - no gunfire, no screams, no ambulance. She says she's confused, too, but for a different reason:

... I sat at my son's mini desk in his mini chair and tried to process it all. Shot inside a school? An elementary school? What do these parents tell their babies? How do you explain to your six year old why the media is outside of his school? While most six-year olds grapple with the concept of death, for too many kids, death via violence has become the norm.

So the small place where children can escape the struggle that is their life, get fed regularly, get heat and an education, is now tainted. A crime scene. They'll run around and laugh in a gym that was filled with running and screaming of a different kind merely hours before. ...

Gang war erupts in Dorchester elementary-school gym

A man shot inside the John Marshall Elementary School in Dorchester last night tried to run away rather than await help, Boston Police report, adding that might have something to do with the fact that he "is well known to law enforcement." The shooting was about a half mile away from the scene of a fatal double shooting on Monday.

School Superintendent Carol Johnson will release their names and proposed action plans at a School Committee meeting tonight, the Globe reports, adding at least half are in "the Circle of Promise, an area that includes parts of Roxbury and Dorchester.

Man shot in Dorchester elementary-school gym

Channel 25 reports he was shot in the gym at the John Marshall Elementary School on Westville Street tonight. Channel 4 reports he was playing basketball.

On Nov. 3, the school was locked down when a man was shot to death at Bowdoin and Westville.

UPDATE: Boston Police report that one of the two men, Rogerson Eveillard, 22, has died.

At Norton and Bowdoin streets, Boston Police tweet. Both taken to local hospitals.

Southie state rep will face primary opposition next year

Michael McGee, a South Boston lawyer and neighborhood activist, says he'll be taking on incumbent state Rep. Brian Wallace for the Democratic nomination next fall in the 4th Suffolk district, which covers South Boston, Uphams Corner and Harbor Point. In a press release, he says:

My local activism has taught me that much can be accomplished if you are willing to roll up your sleeves and go to work. That is what I have been doing for our neighborhood for years as a volunteer--organizing neighbors, pressuring elected officials, planting trees, raising money, mentoring kids--all to make our neighborhood better for all of us. As your State Representative, I'll work just as hard as the advocate for our community.

Penny Cherubino reports that Speed's, the hot-dog truck in Newmarket Square, could be moving to a permanent storefront. In the meantime, on Nov. 16, 17 and 18, you'll find the truck at 960 Morrissey Blvd., she reports.

The last time Michael Sameski saved a child

Sameski is being lauded for racing into a burning house in Dorchester this afternoon and saving the life of an unconscious 14-year old.

Two years ago, Sameski climbed up into a burning building on Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan and saved a little girl.

The Globe reports on a fire this afternoon at 83 Evans St. Her twin brother and their babysitter got out of the two-alarm fire OK. The fire was reported around 4:45 p.m. and quickly went to two alarms, Local 718 tweets.
