Boston 2024's "2.0" plan for Widett Circle calls for tearing down all the existing industrial and mass-transit facilities in the 83-acre area and turning it into 8 million square feet of office and residential use with the hope Boston gets the Olympics, but under a plan that would continue even if we don't get the games. Boston 2024 officials are outlining their "Bid 2.0" version of the proposed 2024 Olympics in Massachusetts. Current Boston 2024 Chairman Steve Pagliuca says the plan still calls for buying out the existing businesses in Widett Circle and building a temporary stadium there - and then turning the land after the games over to a private developer, who would build a whole new transit-oriented development with 4,000 apartments. Mansfield Police report arresting a Dorchester man on shoplifting charges Friday afternoon after a foot chase that started at the LL Bean store in the Mansfield Crossing Mall, went down the Northeast Corridor and then back into town before ending in the back room of a sub shop. Read more.

Sometimes, when somebody says "One and one is ..." you need to let them finish to make sure they mean to say "one and one is two" rather than "one and one is three." The other day, I wrote about Councilor Ayanna Pressley's opposition to a request for a liquor license for a restaurant in Adams Corner in Dorchester. Read more.

Jimmy Cawley

Jimmy Cawley, who spent the past eight years with WORK, Inc. of Dorchester, helping people with disabilities train for and get jobs, died overnight from the lung cancer doctors only discovered when he had a stroke a couple of months ago.

Cawley, a Grateful Dead fan who spent 20 years as a newsroom researcher at the Globe, leaves his wife Elisa and his children Christina and Kevin.

Boston Police report its officers and officers from the state Environmental Police raided a garage on Hancock Street in Dorchester yesterday afternoon and seized all the vehicles whose owners did not arrive in time to haul them away - just for safekeeping, police say. Read more.

Steve Lynch (D-South Boston) went on NECN's Broadside tonight and told host Sue O'Connell that condemning the existing businesses at Widett Circle for a temporary 60,000-seat stadium is stupid and something he'll fight. Suffolk Downs might work, he says.

"I don't think you'll build a stadium for three weeks and then take it down," he said. "I really think it's a bad idea."

Columbia Point Dawgs in a threatening YouTube video

Gang members used YouTube to send warnings to rival gangs - such as holding up court records with names of alleged snitches.

Around New Year's, FBI agents made some unusual phone calls: Warnings to members of a Dorchester gang to lay low because a leader of the rival Columbia Point Dawgs had been shot and was convinced they were behind it - and was vowing revenge. Read more.

The US Attorney's office reports the arrest of 41 people overnight in a crackdown on the Columbia Point Dawgs, a gang named for the housing project that was torn down in the 1980s to make way for Harbor Point. Seven more people are being sought. Read more.

John Duffill reports two people were shot around 8:45 p.m. at 64 Lawrence Ave. As those victims were being transported to a local hospital, police found a third victim, grazed by a bullet. None of the injuries appeared to be life threatening.

The Boston Preservation Alliance posts an interview with city archaeologist Joe Bagley. He brings us up to date on the archaeological digs in the front yard of Old City Hall (site of an even older home for Boston Latin School) - they've found the remains of a building, but which one? - and alerts us that his next major project will be at at the Epiphany School in Dorchester, looking for an outhouse that would have been in use when the site was home of the Industrial School for Girls in the mid-19th century.

Memorial for Jonathan Dos Santos in Dorchester

At what has become a memorial for Dos Santos at Fuller and Washington.

A Dorchester Municipal Court judge today rejected arguments from lawyers for a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old that they posed no flight risk after being charged with gunning down another teen and ordered them held without bail.

In a tense courtroom, Assistant Suffolk County District Attorney Jennifer Hickman said Raeshawn Moody, 14, and Dushawn Taylor-Gennis, 16, patiently waited at the intersection of Washington and Fuller streets Wednesday evening for Jonathan Dos Santos, 16. Read more.
