The Massachusetts Appeals Court today upheld the second-degree murder convictions of three men for beating and stabbing a teenager to death at Blue Hill Avenue and Wilcock Street in 2007, rejecting arguments that a juror who answered "no" to questions about relatives involved in criminal cases or the court system meant the three couldn't get a fair trial. Freed from those pesky rules that keep federal officials from endorsing candidates, current NHL Players Association President Marty Walsh has made an endorsement for the District 3 (Dorchester) City Council seat Frank Baker is giving up, the Dorchester Reporter reports: John FitzGerald, whose father, Kevin, shared an office with Walsh when Walsh was first elected a state rep back in the day.

Boston Police report a man was shot to death on Leyland Street, just past East Cottage Street, in Dorchester, around 11:45 p.m. on Thursday. Read more.

MassDOT reports there were "major delays" on the Expressway southbound this morning due to separate big-rig rollovers. One truck ended on its side, spilling fuel and forcing the shutdown of three lanes near Southampton Street, then another truck jackknifed near Savin Hill, forcing two lanes shut. The trucks and messes were cleared arond 10:30 a.m., MassDOT says.

National Grid is seeking city permission to excavate the remains of a large Dorchester tank that still holds two to three feet of coal tar nearly 90 years after it was last used to store waste from the creation of the coal gas that once lit and heated many Boston homes. Read more.

Wells, now under arrest

Boston Police report arresting Stepheon Wells, 20, of South Boston, on charges he murdered Diva Ayuso by shooting her repeatedly on on Fermoy Heights Avenue in Dorchester on Feb. 18.

Police report fugitive-unit officers arrested Wells on Hemenway Street in the Fenway around 8 this morning.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Roberto Martinez-Baez of first-degree murder for killing Andrew Farley, 62, at the Uphams Corner House of Pizza, where he had gone to pick up a sub on Feb. 7, 2020, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Read more.

The Dorchester Reporter reports inspections of two staircases Friday led to the T suddenly shutting the Red Line station - but that the T expects repairs to be finished in time to re-open the station on Saturday.

The shutdown comes 20 months after part of a Savin Hill staircase crashed to the ground, narrowly missing a rider.

The Bay State Banner lists the City Council races that could have contested races this fall, including the four at-large seats and Districts 3 (Dorchester), 5 (Hyde Park, Mattapan and Roslindale), 6 (West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, part of Mission Hill) and 7 (Roxbury).

The Dorchester Reporter provides an update on the MBTA's plans to replace the current 1940s trolleys on the Mattapan Line with more recent Green Line trolleys: It could take a decade to get everything ready and would involve the elimination of the current loop track at Ashmont.

Transit Police report that when the driver of a T bus near South Bay tried to get three disorderly teens to quiet down, one of them shot him with a BB gun, around 6 p.m. on Monday. The three then jumped off the bus, but police report they found them in Andrew Square and arrested the alleged shooter. The operator declined medical attention, police say.

A federal judge today dismissed what was meant to be a class-action suit against Dunkin' Donuts over alleged overcharging on its mobile app because the only listed plaintiff in the initial complaint and Dunkin' Donuts are both based in Massachusetts, and federal class-action law requires at least one party to be in a different state. A Dorchester man who followed his lawyer's advice to plead guilty to being a pimp will get a chance to prove his innocence at trial after the Supreme Judicial Court ruled today he couldn't possibly have gotten good representation from his lawyer - who professed repeatedly and publicly online to hating Blacks as much as he hated Muslims. The Dorchester Reporter reports a teacher at the Henderson Inclusion School on Croftland Avenue in Dorchester was taken to a local hospital after an apparent attack by a student this morning.
In 2021, a student was charged with repeatedly punching the school principal in the head.

The Boston Fire Department reports a two-alarm fire in a three decker at 80 Adams St., at Lyon Street in Dorchester sent one firefighter to the hospital with minor injuries and displaced seven residents. Read more.
