Boston Police report arresting a Cape Cod man whose attempt to rob bank branch inside the South Bay Stop & Shop, 1100 Massachusetts Ave., failed when a teller refused to give him any money. Read more.

This morning, the MBTA reported delays of up to 20 minutes, atop the more usual delays, on the Red Line's Ashmont branch due to a "track problem" at Ashmont. You may recall that the decision to turn the entire T system into a slow zone last week was due to track problems state inspectors found on that branch.

The Dorchester Reporter reports a metal panel from the big old Bayside Expo sign, which advertises an expo center on Columbia Point that was demolished years ago, plunged to the parking lot below recently. No injuries. Read more.

A Red Line train at Ashmont had to be taken out of service at rush hour yesterday after some guy on the platform attempted to show his anger at somebody inside the train by slamming his shoulder and elbow into a window hard enough to crack it, Transit Police report. Read more.

For the second time in a year, the Zoning Board of Appeal has rejected a proposal by a billboard company and the Polish American Citizens Club to erect a digital billboard on club property to beam ads at Expressway drivers - and to help financially support the non-profit club. Read more.

The Metropolitan PC Department in Washington reports Mohammed Islam, 21, of Dorchester died after he crossed the center lines on a DC street, hit two other cars on the other side, one head on, then was hit by an SUV coming the other way. Read more.

The Supreme Judicial Court today ordered a new trial for Omay Tavares, convicted of a 2010 murder on Rosseter Street in Dorchester, because his attorney, leading his first ever murder case after serving a two-year suspension for "gross incompetence" that got two other clients imprisoned, failed to act on a document from prosecutors that seemed to another man as the killer. Bill Walczak makes the case that the state should pay to relocate the Dorchester Yacht Club to move to the Dorchester Bay side of the venerable Bedes Bridge rather than spend all the money it will take to put in a new drawbridge just so people with enough disposable income to buy and maintain a boat can continue to inconvenience motorists.

Transit Police report two "juvenile females" punched and spit at a 50-year-old woman and pulled her hair around 5 p.m. on Feb. 19 on a T bus in the area of Washington Street and Columbia Road. The teens then fled.

A man known as "Dog Bite" was ordered held without bail at his arraignment in Dorchester court today on charges that he stabbed Urvin Gerald to death outside the Mount Horeb Lodge at Harvard and Norwell streets in Dorchester last July, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.
