Orange Line

By adamg - 2/2/16 - 7:03 pm

There's a dead train somewhere on the Orange Line (the T isn't saying where) and a train that breathes no more at Quincy Center on the Red Line. Passengers are not happy, but whadaya gonna do?

The T is reporting "moderate" delays on the Orange Line due to a train that switched to a Stygian track at Haymarket.

MBTA North Station Fire Chaos Evening Rush Hour 1/26/16

Wicked C captured the scene around 4:15 p.m. yesterday when a small fire broke out under the edge of the inbound Orange Line platform, the T workers couldn't quite see it to aim a fire extinguisher at it and then a particularly vocal guy from the outbound platform jumped onto the tracks to point it out to them (around 1:40 in the video), which the T workers did not seem to appreciate.

Anxious ad on the MBTA Orange Line

Only when wondering if the Orange Line will get me to work on time ...

Forest Hills became the end of the line in more ways than one for one Orange Line train. Also, a Mattapan trolley exhaled its last at Ashmont. The T reports both lines are now moving again.

Smokey State Street station on the Orange Line

Chris Puopolo was among the Orange Line riders forced to detrain at State Street around 6:30 this morning when the train started smoking. Around the same time, another Orange Line train flatlined at Downtown Crossing.

The T is advising "moderate" delays into town on the Red Line from Braintree due to a train that just could not make it past Quincy Center, and "minor" delays into town on the Orange Line from Forest Hills, due to a train that ascended to the pearly gates at Mass. Ave.

UPDATE: Another Blue Line train died, at Airport. More trolleys died, at Waban and Arlington.

So far this morning, trains have shuffled off this mortal coil on the Green Line (Brookline Village and Reservoir on the D and Washington Street on the B) and the Blue Line (State Street). Riders on the Orange and Red lines didn't miss any of the fun, however, due to what the T says are now fixed signal issues near Wellington and JFK/UMass (the Blue Line also had some signal woes). Red Line riders also saw trains slow due to the ongoing work on the Longfellow.

An Orange Line train breathed its last at North Station and now there are, of course, delays.

By adamg - 1/13/16 - 2:07 pm

Severe delays towards Oak Grove, the T advises.

Weber King got caught in the "total chaos" exiting the first Garden event since the T entrance on that side of Causeway closed, forcing thousands of people to cross the street to get to the subway:

Yeah, this isn't gong to work, at all. Need a plan B ASAP.

UPDATE, 11:40 a.m. A Red Line train exhaled its last at Andrew and now the T reports "severe" delays.

Yes, it was return of the signal problems from hell on the Braintree branch this morning.

But don't feel so smug, Orange Line riders - one of your trains bought the farm near Sullivan Square, causing delays from there and Oak Grove.

A gun-toting suspect twice managed to elude police in Charlestown tonight - first by running away from a Boston Police officer near the Navy Yard, then by apparently walking through the Orange Line tunnel from Community College to North Station, where he got up on the platform and disappeared. The Orange Line is a bit of a mess right now. Then again, it's Friday, and it's raining.

I like how they removed the phrase 'three year duration' and replaced it with "completion in December 2018". Technically the same information, but sounds like " we hope most people will gloss over it and not do the math".

An Alewife-bound Red Line train developed some electrical issues shortly after 6 p.m. and that meant smoke at Central Square, so the train was taken out of service.

Around the same time, some young women got into a bit of a fight on the outbound platform at Chinatown just as a train was pulling in. The train was halted so police could clear up the affray, but, of course, that halted all the trains behind it.

Jamaica Plain News posts some video of what happens when the local Honk band is waiting at Green Street for a train to a climate-change protest on the Common.

UPDATE: The music didn't stop when the train pulled in.

Trolley past its expiration date at Kenmore is causing problems for riders who for some reason insist on heading downtown; train that had to be taken out and put out of its misery at Downtown Crossing causing problems for riders who for some reason insist on heading north instead of south.

UPDATE: Signals died, outbound riders sighed, on the Green Line at Copley.

An E Line trolley gave up the ghost at MFA, a Red Line train went express to Valhalla on the Braintree branch and an Orange Line train turned blue at Green. Or as MBTA Haiku put it:

Holiday season
Kicks off with a delayed train.
