The MBTA reports it's replaced all those nasty old, um, new power cables on Orange Line cars that might have started arcing at a moment's notice, so there are now nine trains hurtling along the tracks, or almost the ten that is now considered normal, well, except when something else goes wrong. The Globe got a hold of a letter from a T official to the head of the CRRC plant in Springfield that lists more than a dozen critical problems with the way the company is ever so slowly manufacturing new Orange Line and Red Line cars that are arriving here with critical problems - some of which the T says it's been complaining about for years - and accuses the company of "completely abandoning" any concept of quality control.

In addition to the fewer-trains issue last night, there were signal problems at Wellington and then something caught fire on the tracks near Green Street, to the point that the T tried bustitution.

An Orange Line train died near Stony Brook, and the T reports delays of up to 15 minutes. 15 minutes? One rider on that train snorts:

At least nine of the new Orange Line cars have a problem where electrical current could flow from a power cable to a wheel axle, which the T advises is not a good thing, and so they've taken the cars out of service - which means the amount of time between Orange Line trains is now up to 15 minutes. Forest Hill elevated crash

The Boston City Archives posted a couple of photos of the aftermath of a crash at the Forest Hills elevated station on Dec. 4, 1921, when the last car of a train derailed, causing one train car to fall to the street - narrowly missing a streetcar. No deaths or injuries, unlike a derailment on the el at Beech Street and Harrison Avenue seven years later that killed two and injured several more.

WBZ reports an 18-year-old man was stabbed at the Franklin Street entrance to the Downtown Crossing T stop around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, and that police are looking for an even younger suspect.

Busted doors on an Orange Line train

Finn took photos of the Orange Line train he was on today because it seemed like not a single door on the entire train had both leaves opened at once, almost as if the T were doing that on purpose.

It's almost like it's become common occurrence with the new trains.

Matthew Petersen shows us the half a door on Orange Line car 1464 that just refuses to open. Orange Line aficionados know, without even looking at the photo that a 1400-series car is one of the brand-spanking-new Orange Line cars, the ones that were going to take us away into transit heaven and float like a cloud, and have fully functioning doors.

Shortly after 4 p.m., former City Councilor Matt O'Malley was on one of the spiffy new bing-bing-bing Orange Line trains with the fancy computerized displays and those oh-so-nubbly plastic seats, just riding like a cloud, when it pulled into Mass. Ave. - and promptly had to be taken out of service because the doors wouldn't close. Read more.

Transit Police report arresting three teens - 14, 15 and 16 - they say were particularly vicious in attacking a cop during a melee at Forest Hills station that began when officers told roughly 50 teens to move along rather than continuing to loiter in the station lobby. Read more.
