Transit Police report a man in his mid-50s was hit by an outbound train at Broadway around 2:35 p.m.
He suffered serious injuries but is expected to live, police say. Police declined to say how he wound up on the tracks.
Red Line service was replaced by buses until the completion of the investigation.

The Boston Licensing Board yesterday ordered a two-day shutdown for Empire, 1 Marina Park Dr., because police found three underage students with scorpion bowls during an inspection on Feb. 21 - almost a year after it got a one-day suspension for a similar offense. Read more.

NECN reports the Boston Licensing Board this morning set the border of Starbucks Nation at Dorchester Street when it sided with residents - and the mayor - and rejected a food-serving license for a Starbucks at L Street and East Broadway. Read more.

When the Aloft hotel on D Street opened on Feb. 4, the lobby had one of the pool tables that all Aloft hotels have. And then management had to order it packed up and put it in storage when they learned that Boston requires a license for pool tables in places of public accommodation. Read more.

Mayor Walsh, city councilors Michael Flaherty and Michelle Wu and state Sen. Linda Dorcena Forry this morning backed residents opposed to a Starbucks at L Street and East Broadway, saying there are already enough coffee options in the area, that a Starbucks would exacerbate morning traffic woes at the intersection and would help to eat away at the family-oriented, mom-and-pop nature of the commercial district east of Perkins Square. A community meeting tonight on a Starbucks proposed for L Street and Broadway repeatedly veered towards Parks and Rec style chaos as residents battled each other on issues that often had little to directly do with the coffeehouse - such as which local restaurants drove other local restaurants out of business. The 7-Eleven at 473 W. Broadway was held up around 9:30 p.m. by a white man, about 5'10" with a scruffy beard and wearing a red mask and a dark jacket with a gray lining.

The Globe reports Bostonians have once again crushed the dreams and hopes of rich people who just wanted to have some fun. Yes, IndyCar Boston is dead.
City Hall blames IndyCar:
The City of Boston will always be open to opportunities that will positively showcase our city, however as we continued to work with Boston Grand Prix they were unwilling or unable to meet the necessary requirements to hold an event of this size. The Mayor feels strongly in protecting the taxpayers and limiting the impact to residents, and we are not shy that we held them to very high standards."

UPDATE: Board found no violation.
Both Boston Police and the owner of Stats Bar and Grille, 77 Dorchester St., are mystified about an incident last month in which a credit card being held for a man running a tab disappeared, was used to charge $1,200 worth of stuff at the South Bay Target, then reappeared at the bar a couple hours later. Boston firefighters are at 291 Silver St., battling a fire that spread from a shed to a house. The fire broke out around the same time as another two-alarm fire in Dorchester.

Eileen Murphy reports on the newest addition to what's becoming South Boston's Caffeine Corner: A Starbucks, for which renovation is now underway at L Street and East Broadway, opening where developer Michael Norton once proposed a restaurant.
Starbucks joining DD, Cumbies, & Boston Bagel on L St.
There's already a Starbucks near Broadway station and, of course, on the South Boston waterfront.
