The Roslindale Farmers' Market opened its 2011 season this morning in Adams Park, with fresh produce and meat from local farms and knicknacks of all sorts. Also music. This guy really knew how to blow his own horn:

The weekly Saturday market in Adams Park was so successful last year people were running into problems finding a place to park. Rick Ward from the Roslindale Village Main Street Farmers' Market Committee reports a deal with the MBTA to let people parking in the lower commuter-rail parking lot for free - the lot with the entrance next to the Citizens Bank where South Street turns into Belgrade Avenue.

The Boston Public Market at Dewey Square (South Station)

The Boston Public Market opened last week at Dewey Square (South Station). It will operate every Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30 am to 6:30 pm, through October 30, selling locally grown fruits, vegetables, meats, and other farm products.

They don't seem to be doing much publicity yet, so I decided to give them some free advertising here.

Devra First reports that Jack and the Bean Bowl, a vegetarian food cart selling bean-and-rice bowls by the farmers' market site is giving away all its food starting around noon Friday, to introduce its food.

Meanwhile, Penny Cherubino reports on progress at the new Thursday farmer's market at the Prudential Center:

The new farmers' market at the Prudential Center will make Thursdays in the Back Bay like market days in Provence, if David Gilson's dream is realized.

A Proper Bostonian said farewell to the Copley Square farmers' market yesterday:

... Winter has arrived and I was bundled up in my shearling coat, hat, gloves, scarf, and boots. Many market vendors close down after the killing frost, when the choices narrow to root vegetables, cabbage, and apples. So just a few hardy farmers were setting up their stalls when I got there, shortly before 11. Selling can't legally begin until the stroke of 11, so I had to hang around. I went to my favorite apple stand, and saw a fellow with his hood pulled down over his forehead and a huge scarf wrapped around the rest of his face, except for his blue eyes. ...
