Deval Patrick

On Blue Mass. Group, David discusses an interesting twist to this year's race for governor:

... Patrick, the first serious African-American candidate for Governor in Massachusetts history, is playing catch-up in garnering support in the African-American community, in part because his white opponent in the Democratic primary has close ties to that overwhelmingly Democratic community through his long-term friendships with two influential African-American Republicans.

Is the Democratic state party trying to do to Deval Patrick what it did to Scott Harshbarger? If so, will that be enough to overcome the Mihos factor and get Kerry Healey elected governor?

Mass. Marrier is discouraged, pointing to a recent rules "interpretation" that will make it easier for candidate-come-lately Chris Gabrieli to get on the September ballot as an alternative to the faltering Tom Reilly:

Because at the rate he's going, I'm thinking Tom Reilly's not going to be on the ballot in November (and I'm wondering if anybody'd want to change their votes on this poll).

Steve Garfield: Thomas F. Reilly will not be getting my vote for Governnor of Massachusetts:

Is the Ameriquest scandal Deval Patrick's equivalent of Tom Reilly's phone call to the DA?

Is Mitt Romney the Cowerer in Chief or a human weather vane?

How come Kerry Healey is such a fan of big-tent Republicanism now that she might face Christy Mihos when she couldn't wait to bounce Jane Swift off the ballot in 2002?

David: Well, this is odd:

... Maybe Roland Arnall really is the great guy Patrick's letter makes him out to be, and maybe the company's previous problems with predatory lending weren't Arnall's fault. (Then again, maybe they were.) But there's no way for us to know that. And one finds it difficult to imagine that Patrick would have written this letter for Arnall if Patrick weren't on Ameriquest's board - after all, Arnall's politics are about 180 degrees from Patrick's, so why stick your neck out? ...

That's Sco's reaction to possible Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill Galvin after seeing Galvin speak recently:

... He was much better speaking off the cuff in a small group than I've seen him on television or in front of larger audiences giving prepared remarks. ...

Sco also reports on a Deval Patrick speech he took in.

Sco writes he's never liked the seemingly superficial comparisons between Barack Obama and our own Deval Patrick. But there's Obama himself making the comparison in a speech at Harvard yesterday:

A few weeks after meeting Deval Patrick with egg on her lip, Emily, a legislative aide at the State House, runs into him again this morning - while suffering from an Angelina Jolie-sized lip caused by an allergic reaction to a peach:

... DEVAL PATRICK: You don't sound so good!

EMILY: I pffdklj ha ha mrrrrrrgic reaction. Mr. Patrick. Ha ha.

[DEVAL PATRICK puts his hand on EMILY's back and pats it reassuringly. EMILY swoons and notices that DEVAL PATRICK is really quite handsome.]

Lynne at Left in Lowell posts the transcript of an interview she did with Patrick.

The Globe today reports that Deval Patrick is thinking of running for governor.

As with their extensive coverage of Boston City Council candidate Sam Yoon, however, the Globe never asks (or reports) why.
