The Globe endorses Menino.

The Herald reports Flaherty is going after the party-hardy vote and details the Kenneally-mobile.

John Carroll gets his crank on, describing Menino as "his usual incoherent self" at a WBUR forum yesterday and calling Flaherty a "Boston mayoral footnote."

Firefighter, police unions endorse Kenneally

Local 718 and the Boston Police Patrolman's Association say they're backing Andrew Kenneally for one of the four at-large city council seats open in tomorrow's preliminary (which will narrow the field of candidates from 15 to 8 for the November final election).

Patrolman's Association President Thomas Nee points to the fact that Kenneally has family members in both departments, worked to keep West Roxbury kids off drugs and, as an aide to City Councilor Michael Flaherty, "labored to pass key legislation to get 'cop killer' guns off our streets."

Kenneally had earlier been endorsed by the union representing EMTs.

Animal lovers, Teamsters endorse Kenneally

The Massachusetts Humane Society and the Teamsters, local 25, both say they support Andrew Kenneally's bid for one of four open at-large City Council seats this fall:

IBEW local endorses Kenneally for city council

IBEW local 2222 today endorsed at-large City Council candidate Andrew Kenneally. Local 2222 President Myles Calvey said in a statement:

"Andrew is a forward-thinking individual, and understands that the key to growth lies in innovation. He knows the work we do and the need to implement new technologies such as FIOs to ensure that Boston remains competitive in the global economy. Andrew has always been a tireless advocate for working families and the protection of workers' rights. Aside from a passion to help people and his strong roots in Boston, Andrew has the knowledge, experience and vision to help Boston through these tough times to make our great city even greater. We are proud to put our full support behind him," said the President of IBEW, Local 2222, Myles Calvey.

Kenneally is one of more than a dozen candidates seeking one of four open at-large seats this fall. A September preliminary will whittle the field down to eight for the November final election.

Kenneally: AFSCME and ye shall receive

At-large council candidate Andrew Kenneally says AFSCME Council 93, which represents BPL, school-cafeteria and public-health workers, has endorsed him.

If $100,000 is enough to keep you running for mayor, how much would get you to run for city council?

Sam Yoon raised his $100,000 (and then some). Now comes Andrew Kenneally, who reports raising $11,675 in three weeks as he considers whether to run for an at-large city council seat. A press release from his nascent campaign says:

Kenneally's broad support comes from individuals from all sections of the city, as well as, organized labor.

Well, actually, it comes from out of town, too: 57% of the contributions are from non-Boston residents.

A West Roxbury native who now lives in East Boston, Kenneally has spent five years immersing himself in city affairs, first as chief of staff for Councilor Maura Hennigan, then as director of police and communications for Councilor Michael Flaherty.
