North Station
No, not the subways - they catch on fire easily enough all on their own. But the Globe reports that as the temperature plunged, Keolis turned on switch heaters, some of which blow hot air, but others of which consist of flaming jets designed to keep the switches operable in the cold.
Was it only three weeks ago that the pedestrian tunnel under Causeway Street finally opened? T.J. Winnick reports this morning:
Not only is the weeks-old North Station tunnel way too narrow for rush hour but the escalator has already been out of order since last week!
Claire Blechman shows us the scene in North Station, where a Dunkin' Donuts is getting rebuilt this morning. As she notes, jittery commuters don't have to fret - they just have to walk another 100 feet or so to the station's other Dunkin' Donuts because, after all, this is Boston.
The MBTA reports delays of up to 15 minutes on the Orange Line due to an inbound train with "a mechanical problem" at North Station.

"So much for getting home early for Halloween," T.J. Winnick sighed upon seeing the line just to get into North Station, never mind to his train - a line that stretched down Causeway past the Tip O'Neill building.
