The end of the Forest Hills upper busway

Clay Harper watched the demolition of the upper busway at Forest Hills this morning. It's part of the work to add a berth for those extra-long 39 buses now that the old trolley station they'd been using is in the way of the new Arborway.

Work begins to tear down roof over upper busway at Forest Hills

And won't that make waiting for a bus tomorrow fun?

The metal coverings over the upper busway are being torn down as part of the overall Arborway/Forest Hills station changes - which, on a temporary basis, include smushing all the upper-busway routes that used to be split between two lanes into a single lane.

USSR sign at Forest Hills MBTA station

The T or MassDOT or somebody last week shifted the taxi stand at Forest Hills from in front of the station down Washington Street near Ukraine Way. The sign did not go unaltered for long.

Cab drivers are not happy about the shift, Jamaica Plain News reports.

MassDOT today approved a $222.2 million contract to replace the T's current fleet of 325 CNG buses with a new fleet of CNG/hybrid buses.

New Flyer, Inc., of Winnipeg, is expected to start delivering the 40-foot buses, many of which will run out of the Forest Hills yard, in July, 2016, with all buses in service a year later.

The federal government will pick up 80% of the cost.

Backhoe rips up a light pole on the Casey Overpass in Forest Hills

Fred White watched a backhoe operator rip up light poles on the Casey Overpass and just fling them over the side. "This must be fun," he suspects.
