MBTA Orange Line train not going anywhere

No room on the train. Photo by Shamus Moynihan.

Tonight's line of mourners for the Orange Line includes a very special guest, Channel 7's own Dan Hausle, who had a Vine time recording the wait at Downtown Crossing, where riders piled up because of a train that ascended to Valhalla at Chinatown.

Update, 5:58 p.m. Shamus Moynihan reports:

DTX for 25 mins. Train came through too full. Sign saying 4 mins the whole time.

Will Gordon, who writes about beer for Deadspin (and sports for boston.com) and Stoddard's, which sells beer downtown, along with various fans and friends and coworkers on both sides have spent much of the past day exchanging expletive-laden pleasantries over what a Stoddard's bartender may or may not have said about a particular type of craft beer in what may or may not have been a private discussion yesterday afternoon.

Shuttle bus on Red Line at Park Street

A lone shuttle bus at Park Street.

UPDATE: Transit Police report the man was taken out alive from under the train.

A man jumped in front of a train around 2:20 p.m. on the outbound side of the Red Line.

One witness on the platform said he heard a "boom" then screeching as the train driver hit the brakes.

The MBTA substituted bus service between JFK/UMass and Kendall as firefighters and paramedics worked to extract the man and get him to a hospital.

Wedding proposal at Pi Alley

Joe Cabrera wasn't the only person to head to Pi Alley in Downtown Crossing around 9:26 on this fine 3/14/15. He reports watching a man get down on one knee and propose to his inamorata at exactly that time:

Bride says groom does geeky stuff.

Screaming gargoyles in Downtown Crossing

That would, of course, be the intersection of Washington Street with Winter and Summer in Downtown Crossing, where, if you look up, way up, at the top of the building with the Corner entrance, you'll see a series of screaming mad gargoyles.

Giant icicle behind Bromfield Street

Sarah Rubenstein forwards a pair of photos of a giant icicle coming loose behind her office at 36 Bromfield St. this afternoon.

The first one shows the giant ice spear coming loose. Then, she reports, part of it shattered one of her office's windows, showering a conference room - fortunately empty at the time - with glass and ice.

The second one shows it hurtling towards the ground - just as somebody was walking right at it:

Around 10:30 a.m., a man with a cane walked into the Citizens Bank branch at 6 Ave. de Lafayette, gave a teller a note demanding money and got some. Police suspect the cane was a prop because he ran out of the bank. He's white, about 5'10" and wearing a blue jacket that says "US Polo Association" on the back.

Down on the Red Line tracks at Downtown Crossing around 2:15 p.m., quickly put out and probably due to the fact that we're all slobs who throw things on the tracks all the time, or something.

Firefighters evacuated the Downtown Crossing T stop around 5:00 p.m. due to smoke on the Orange Line's Forest Hills platform, from the Orange Line train that simply sat there, emulating a doorknob.

As with yesterday's Quincy Center incident, the T blamed a puff of smoke, this time from a failed train motor.
