Wanted for attack at Downtown Crossing

Transit Police have put out a BOLO for a man they say punched a 62-year-old woman after she said "excuse me" as she tried to walk past him in the concourse between the Orange and Red lines at Downtown Crossing around 2 p.m. yesterday.

If the alleged puncher looks familiar, contact detectives at 617-222-1050.

A Cambridge man is being held in lieu of $5,000 bail following his arraignment last month that he went up to an Asian-American woman in Chinatown and punched her in the face last April 2 and then about two hours later punched out another Asian-American woman downtown, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Transit Police report they've arrested a 17-year-old on a charge of assault with intent to murder for a stabbing late Saturday at the Franklin Street entrance to the Downtown Crossing T stop. More arrests expected, police say.

The Boston City Archives recount what happened when Mayor James Michael Curley successfully fought to rid Bromfield Street of young women shining shoes and blacking boots on Bromfield Street in 1917 - when the young men who would normally have done the job were getting ready for war. It was an outrage to public morality, Curley and others - including the Women's Christian Temperance Union - thundered.

WBZ reports an 18-year-old man was stabbed at the Franklin Street entrance to the Downtown Crossing T stop around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, and that police are looking for an even younger suspect.

Boston Police report arresting Syretta Copeland, 42, on charges she went around the Roche Bros. store on Summer Street spraying people with aerosol cleaning products and then trying to set them on fire with a lighter. Read more.

The mayor's office released a report today on revitalizing downtown after Covid to make it more of a walking neighborhood with lots more residents, tourists and, yes, office workers, and with more things for them to do, even 24/7, like in other world-class cities, instead of a place where residents fight late-night tacos. Shiny floor at Haymarket

Along with all the track and signal work, the T said it would spend the Month of No Orange Line to spiff up the stations. Alex DiPrato reports that, sure, his first morning ride on the Orange Line was wicked slow (although the T had cautioned the new tracks need a week or so to settle), but at least the floors were gleaming at Haymarket today. Blocked in MBTA shuttle

Marco shows us the scene this morning at Washington and School streets in Downtown Crossing, where one of those MBTA shuttle buses found itself blocked in and unable to make the turn because of an MBTA truck parked right at the intersection.
