Mowing at Millennium Park

Mary Ellen watched a city mower doing the fall trim around the hill at the center of Millennium Park in West Roxbury. Although the top of the hill consists mainly of heavily manicured soccer fields, the sides are allowed to grow wild - but not too wild, to block the growth of any trees or other plants whose roots might puncture the liner.

The New York company that owns the former Payless building at Bromfield and Washington streets in Downtown Crossing now says, in a filing with the BPDA last week, it expects to begin 28 months of construction on a new 22-story office tower there in the second half of 2022. Read more.

Hush Crew is a group of local, mostly Asian-Americans who like to dance in public to K-pop. The other day, they were at Summer and Washington street, dancing. Between sets, they wore masks. And that really set some random guy off, to the point where he started calling them communists and tried to pull the mask off one of them. Read more.

A concerned citizen files a 311 complaint about the situation on School Street downtown:

There is a coffee pot (large silver with spout) in the garden along the side of School St by the Alley next to the mailbox. It's silver and in the shrubs next to the street. People commenting it could be something dangerous.

A Hyde Park man already facing charges gun charges in another case was ordered to stay at home at his arraignment on charges of involuntary murder and unlawful possession of a firearm for the death of Nalijah Andrade, 17, of New Bedford in a room at the Hyatt Regency on Avenue de Lafayette on Feb. 4, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Boston Police report arresting a guy they say got $5 from a man walking through Downtown Crossing early this morning and when the man refused to give him more, tried to punch him and then chased after him - continuing to try to slug him when he got close enough - until they wound up at Beacon and Joy streets, where the victim spotted a couple of officers and flagged them down. Boston Police report arresting Carlos Eloy Thomas, 19, of Dorchester, on charges he fired at a group of men standing in the plaza at Washington and Franklin streets around 1:45 p.m. on May 21, sending one of them to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Read more.

In the plaza at Washington and Franklin streets next to Millennium Tower, around 1:45 p.m., possibly by one of two guys on red scooters who drove up to a group of men standing there, then raced away.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office reported a deal today to drop criminal charges against Securitas for the way a beefy guard allegedly beat an 11-year-old girl he accused of shoplifting at the Downtown Crossing Primark in 2019, in exchange for "sweeping changes" in the way the company trains its guards and special police officers - and keeps track of any improper behavior. Transit Police report arresting two of the several men they say grabbed a man from behind, punched him to the ground and kept kicking him as one of them removed the man's wallet and phone, around 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Read more.

Boston Police report a woman was shot around 11:25 p.m. on Thursday in the Hyatt Regency, 1 Avenue de Lafayette, across from Harrison Avenue. She was declared dead at the scene.

Ben Chan reports he was on the Red Line platform at Downtown Crossing around 5:40 p.m. when a train pulled in and the doors on one car just wouldn't open and the driver ignored the herdette of people (like five people) banging on the train and waving at him and he just doesn't care and wants to keep going, schedules and all that, no doubt, before deciding this train is coming out of service.
