A North Adams man who claims he lost his job because of Marty Walsh's statements urging rightwingers not hold a rally on the Common days after other rightwingers went on a violent rampage in Charlottesville, VA in 2017 had his $100-million libel case thrown out in state court. Mayor Marty Walsh today announced the start of the "hybrid" model for most Boston public-school students has been delayed at least a week, from Oct. 15 to Oct. 22, because of a testing positivity rate citywide that now exceeds 4% for the first time since early June. Read more.

WGBH reports that polling it had done in the days before Michelle Wu formally announced she was running for mayor next year showed Mayor Walsh with a big lead - but that Wu was leading in West Roxbury, Roslindale, Jamaica Plain and Mission Hill, which would roughly mirror the results of the 2013 race, in which Walsh beat John Connolly to replace Tom Menino.

The Globe reports Mayor Walsh himself made the announcement, saying Wu told him of her plans in a phone call yesterday. The Globe says a Wu spokesperson did not confirm that, "but took pains not to deny it."

Mayor Walsh announced today that Boston has won state approval for its Community Choice Electricity program, under which the city will pay for electricity from renewable-power and lower-carbon generators for re-sale to city residents and businesses, helping curb the city's overall carbon emissions and possibly save consumers some money.
