A glassy-eyed, alcohol-infused Sox fan who had to be wrestled to the ground at a game in July after knocking a woman down raised the hackles of Boston Licensing Board Chairwoman Nicole Murati Ferrer today.

"What concerns me right now is the level of intoxication of this patron," she told Fenway officials at a hearing on a police citation for having a "disorderly, intoxicated patron arrested on the premises" at a July 27 game.

Sox officials said the issue was more one of general belligerence than drunkenness - the guy just seemed to have a lot of pent up anger and had been yelling for several innings.

Red Sox Nation, that is. Boston Police report arresting a Plymouth woman on charges she stole another woman's purse at last night's Red Sox game.

According to police, witnesses saw Margaret A. Donahue, 40, use her foot to move the purse of another woman seated out in the right-field area, then reach down, pick it up and walk away:

The purse along with its contents was recovered and the suspect placed under arrest. Once placed under arrest, the suspect began to struggle with officers and made numerous phone calls to 911 requesting the presence of additional officers alleging misconduct by officers.

AT&T makes it easier for customers to ignore the game at Fenway

AT&T says it's dramatically boosted its wireless broadband capacity in the vicinity of Fenway Park, meaning customers are less likely to strike out while trying to make phone calls or getting online during games.

The company says it did this by adding a distributed antenna system to the area around the park.

"We want our customers to have a great network experience whatever they're doing - whether that's making a call, checking e-mail, downloading apps or surfing the Internet," Steve Krom, vice president and general manager of AT&T New England, said in a statement.

A company spokesman was unable to say exactly how much extra Pink Hat capacity the company added.

Sox hit home run with mixed drinks at Fenway

The Boston Licensing Board this morning gave Fenway Park a permanent green light to sell mixed drinks in the grandstand during Sox games.

The vote came after managers from the Sox and concession holder Aramark told the board they had had no problems with underage or overserved drinkers under the license first approved in April for grandstand sales of mixed drinks.

Boston Police report a Vermont woman who jumped into the Red Sox bullpen last night looking for a Sox pitcher to hug her instead found only the long arm of the fist-bumping detail cop, who arrested her on a charge of disturbing a public assembly.

The Boston Licensing Board voted today to let the Red Sox begin sales of mixed drinks to the common people at Fenway Park, approving a plan under which five existing beer booths will be outfitted to serve dilute mixed drinks - with no more than an ounce of hard liquor on them.

The Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission, like the Boston Licensing Board a state agency, may also review the plan, which bars sales in bleacher stands and under which mixed-drink sales would stop two hours after a game starts or after the bottom of the seventh inning, whichever comes first.

The Red Sox today submitted plans to the Boston Licensing Board to sell what it said would be diluted mixed drinks at five locations inside the ballpark. In an effort to placate city officials, the team said it would not sell mixed drinks in the bleachers - although officials agreed bleacher fans could easily walk to one of the five other stands where the team does want to sell the liquor.

After meeting with Boston Police, the team also agreed to cut off liquor sales after two hours or the seventh inning, whichever comes first. Currently, the team cuts off beer sales after 2 1/2 hours or the seventh inning.

The Globe reports city officials are opposing plans by the Sox to expand mixed-drink sales beyond the seats where rich people sit. The matter's now before the Boston Licensing Board, which plans a hearing next Wednesday.

Yes, they asked for state historic-preservation tax credits for the work. The state said no. But don't worry. The Herald reports the Sox are still eligible for several million in tax credits for restoring the historic ballpark.

Dirty Water cannot abide the news that the Sox plan to bring the right center fences closer to home:

Death Valley in right-center has been a part of Fenway lore for decades and it is part of what makes Fenway special.

So to John Henry, Tom Werner and Larry Lucchino I ask that you bite the bullet. If you need to expand the bullpens then simply knock out 2 or 3 rows of the bleachers. I am sure you can make up the lost seating there somewhere on the roof.
