Fenway Park

The Boston Licensing Board last week decided that Fenway Park was not to blame for a fan falling two stories down an elevator shaft after a May game and that the Green Dragon near Faneuil Hall was equally blameless for the death of a man due to an apparent heroin overdose in its men's room.

After hearings on both matters, the board ruled "no violation" in both cases.

The Boston Licensing Board decides Thursday whether to take any action against Fenway Park for a May 16 incident in which a woman celebrating her graduation from Boston University suffered serious head injuries in a fall down an elevator shaft.

After the incident, police cited Fenway for her injuries and for allegedly overserving her.

Red Sox fans just started chanting "Yankees suck!" as Joba Chamberlain started warming up for the Tigers. Classic Fenway.

A woman fell two floors down an elevator shaft at Fenway Park when the doors unexpectedly opened even though the elevator wasn't there, around 11:20 p.m., the Boston Fire Department reports.

The woman wound up lying on the top of the elevator, unconscious.

Firefighters got into the elevator, used a chair to help them climb through its ceiling hatch aand pit the woman, 22, on a backboard.

They then lowered her through the hatch and handed her off to EMTs for treatment and then transport to a local hospital.

Helicopter over Fenway

As today's game approached, a teacher at the kidlet's school opened a window so the kids could better hear the flyover at nearby Fenway Parik.

Only they didn't hear anything - because unlike in years past, this year's flyover consisted of a Coast Guard helicopter, captured here by Brian D'Amico.

The Zoning Board of Appeals today approved a plan by the Red Sox to operate a hot-dog stand on the Lansdowne Street side of Fenway Park whenever the Red Sox aren't playing.

Sox attorney Dennis Quilty did not specify exact hours, but noted that under its existing food-serving license, Fenway can sell food until 2 a.m.

The stand, to be called Fenway Franks, will also sell burgers and soda, he said, adding, however, that beer will not be on the menu.

He said the Sox are also preparing a formal request for a food truck on Yawkey Way.

Red Sox officials say they want to add three more places to buy hard liquor, add sales of beer in bottles and extend alcohol sales on Yawkey Way as a way to reduce crowding in the stadium during Red Sox games and other events at Fenway Park.

At a hearing before the Boston Licensing Board this morning, Dennis Quilty, the team's licensing attorney, and Lawrence Cancro, the team's senior vice president of Fenway affairs, said Fenway's concourse was built in simpler times and cannot really handle the large flows of people who concentrate there in search of refreshments before games and events and in between innings.

The Red Sox want to expand the number of stands inside Fenway Park that can serve up hard liquor - and to extend beer sales at games that run long.

The team is scheduled to appear before the Boston Licensing Board on Wednesday to seek several amendments in its current liquor license for Fenway and Yawkey Way.

The Sox want to increase the number of concession stands that can sell mixed drinks with no more than an ounce of actual liquor in them from the five approved in 2011 to eight - including one on Yawkey Way.

Red Sox Parade Stops At Boston Marathon Finish Line To Honor Bombing Victims (11-2-2013)

Giant Sox heads on the Longfellow Bridge

On the Longfellow Bridge.

What a great day for a parade.

From Fenway Park to the banks of the Charles, Bostonians lined up early for a chance to see the 2013 World Champion Boston Red Sox - and doesn't that sound good to hear?

When the procession of Duck Boats got to the Boston Marathon finish line in Copley Square, it stopped. Jonny Gomes put the World Series trophy and a Boston 617 Strong jersey on the finish line. Then the players and fans listened and joined in a chorus of "God Bless America."

Charlie with a beard

Only Charlie won't use it, at least not until after the World Series, when maybe he and his pal Officer Horgan will shave the beards off for charity.

The T has posted an explanation of service after the Sox game - basically, if runs long, the T will extend subway hours or hold some commuter-rail trains.

Somewhere out there is a guy who is no doubt very proud of himself - and very sticky - after photobombing ESPN with a bottle of Dr Pepper outside Fenway.

Ed. note: This raises the troubling question of which is more vile: Dr Pepper or Moxie?

By adamg - 10/13/13 - 11:45 pm

I think that deserves a Castiglionish "Can you believe it?!?"

Oh, and the cop celebrating the home run? Chief Daniel Linskey reports it was Officer Stephen Horgan.
