Eversource reports the power went out at 7:01 a.m. and that it hopes to have it back on by 10 a.m. The company says 6,035 customers are affected.

The South End Forum reports the company that wanted to keep its check-cashing place at Mass. Ave. and Tremont Street open 24 hours has told the mayor's office, nah, just kidding, they'll keep closing at midnight. But the group adds:

They will however pursue a proposal for a 24/7 operation at their Edward Everett Square location at Boston Street in Dorchester.

Two Globe reporters spend time with the addicts on the stretch of Mass. Ave. now known as Methadone Mile.

It's an interesting, sad read, worth the time - and maybe an e-mail to the mayor's office asking whatever happened to Long Island.

Perhaps there'll be a part 2 in which they talk to the people who live in that area (yes, there are apartments there) on how their lives have been changed by the influx.

Boston Police report a man in his 60s was pronounced dead after being hit by an SUV at Albany Street and Paul Sullivan Way around 6 p.m. on Thursday.

Police say the crash remains under investigation. The driver stayed at the scene and no charges have been filed.

The Boston Sun reports a BRA design committee has told the company that wants to replace the old Quinzani Bakery with a brick tower that the South End has quite enough brick, thank you very much, and to go back and design something "bolder" for the site.

That's a lot of cash

Boston Police report that when a man who got into a cab at Mass. Ave. and Tremont Street Friday afternoon left his backpack behind, the driver opened it up to see if there was any ID inside.

There was $187,000 in cash in it. Read more.

Sgt. Luke Taxter at District D-4 reports an 18-year-old was shot around 1:25 a.m. yesterday at 647 Harrison Ave. She's expected to survive. Two cars were also hit.

Vehical in the South End

Matt Karolian spotted this note on the mirror of a gas guzzler parked in the space next to an electric-vehicle recharger at the South End Whole Foods. Either the note writer is from down South or was so annoyed he couldn't be bothered with the niceties of spelling.

Double-wide stroller on Dwight Street

Double-wide on Dwight Street.

A fed-up citizen strolled down Dwight Street this morning and filed separate 311 complaints about strollers parked on the sidewalk and locked to railings at 4, 7, 25 and 35 Dwight and demanded the city "ticket and remove" them.

Flowers bedeck an MBTA bus stop in the South End

TaliMeBanana noticed this flower-bedecked T bus stop on Mass. Ave. in the South End yesterday.

They're the work of Kristyn Price, who is doing short-term flower installations across the South End, under the hash tag #guerillaflowerfare.
