Maybe it was a Klingon ship outfitted to return a whale to its spacefaring mothership

By adamg - 3/18/10 - 10:12 pm

Account of a UFO sighting aboard the casino ship out of Lynn as it cruised on Stellwagen Bank, feeding ground of many Atlantic whales.

Via Corey Jackson, who wonders if maybe the casino ship's tax issues have to do with it being owned by aliens who don't understand the U.S. tax code.

Photographer gets right up in Mother Nature's grill; stares down waves on the North Shore

By adamg - 10/18/09 - 9:33 pm

Maybe NECN reporters don't want to risk getting swept out to sea, but Rick Nohl and some other weather fans seemed to have no such qualms along the water in Lynn today. Nohl notes his camera was inside a waterproof housing.

Furious waves pounding Scituate.

State to fund study of another Blue Line extension project

By adamg - 7/27/09 - 11:49 am

If the state can pay to study extending the Blue Line at one end to Charles/MGH, even though it has no money to actually build the extension, the least it can do is pay to study extending the Blue Line to Lynn at the other end:

... "Careful analysis has shown the tremendous value to commuters and local businesses of extending Blue Line service beyond Wonderland Station to Lynn," said Secretary Aloisi, "and we are committed to moving forward on this critical project." ...

Entrepreneurial idea: Drive-through laundromats

By adamg - 5/3/09 - 12:29 pm

Looks like there's some demand for such a service.

Alternative idea: Consulting service for laundromats to advise them how closely they should put barriers to keep cars from ramming into their storefronts.

Abominable snowmobile on the Lynnway

By adamg - 3/3/09 - 12:14 pm

OMG, moron!

Cody Pomeray forwarded this fine example of Massholishness on the Lynnway this morning, adding:

The part you can't see is that this guy is also on the phone while driving the abominable snowmobile. Perhaps he was calling a friend to borrow a brush?

Martian rovers

By adamg - 2/1/09 - 9:33 pm

Orange

At sunset today, the sky was suffused with orange. At the Lynn end of the Nahant Causeway, it was enough to give you a sense of what it would be like to be on Mars, if Mars were a bit warmer and had oceans and people and a causeway.

Sean Sullivan captured the orange sky near North Station.

What, no Amber Alerts?

By Brett - 8/21/08 - 4:09 pm

Boy, 5, missing since Sunday.

Why no Amber alert? Well, for starters, the kid isn't a rich blond, blue eyed white girl.

Forced accomplice?

By adamg - 8/2/08 - 10:21 am

ChezNiki considers the case of Louna Eveillard and concludes:

... This woman is a classic immigrant domestic violence case. Alone, abused, pregnant non-stop for over three years, not too much English. According to AP, she doesn't even have a telephone number in her name. She needs help: medical, legal, psychological, spiritual. I'm hoping that a womens group, domestic violence or Haitian Community group comes together and helps this woman and her children. Sad thing about it? Being locked up in a Kings County jail is probably the safest she's been in years.

Announcing another blogger in Lynn

By mediaseth - 11/18/07 - 6:14 pm

Lynn has another blogger. Some of these blogs have been mentioned right here on Universal Hub, helping to put Lynn back on the map as a place to be. (Um. Yes. Lynn was once hopping mad with activity that wasn't all sin.) Downtown, in particular, is on the rise and full of potential, even in this current real estate market.

A blog for downtown Lynn

By adamg - 8/26/07 - 9:06 am

Corey, a newcomer to downtown Lynn, is now blogging about the neighborhood:

... I've been here for about a year now. My parents were born here and often tell me of what used to be. I see it coming back. I have hope for my property value. I think others out there do as well. I figured I would put this blog together to try and get the community talking about what's happening, and what's next. Rumors, gossip, news, etc. ...

Marbleheaded state rep's Lynn comments and other North Shore videos

By adamg - 4/5/07 - 8:53 am

Help Bring Public Access TV Back to Swampscott has a series of North Shore videos, including one of State Rep. Douglas Petersen making his dumb Lynn comments (basically: That Swampscott should support better education in Lynn because Swampscott kids will become "captains of industry" who will need educated blue-collar workers from Lynn); the Lynn comments start at around 2:50.

The death of the British leather tourist in Rhode Island

By adamg - 6/29/06 - 5:46 pm

Chaz, active in the local leather scene, discusses the death of Adrian Exley, who went missing from Lynn in April and whose body was found in Rhode Island. And he wonders if he might still be alive if the media had picked up the missing-persons bulletin Lynn Police issued in April. This was after Exley disappeared after traveling from London (via Boston) possibly to meet Gary Leblanc, who killed himself last week, reportedly leaving behind instructions on where to find Exley's body.

Lynn Lofts, the Skinny is a new blog aimed at people thinking about moving into a condo in the neighborhood - specifically, the Keith Building, where the author lives. He does not much care for the building's developer - and explains why you should be careful about moving into a unit too close to the commuter-rail tracks.

Weird accident

By adamg - 8/16/05 - 2:40 pm

Smeg witnesses a weird accident in Lynn on his way home:

... The Jeep turned his wheel *a little*, then floored it, he had no way enough turn to make the corner, and he drove straight into the front of the Mustang, which roled back from the force. The guy in the Jeep then put it on full lock and floored it again, swinging around onto the curb and into the massive truck that was parked on the forecourt of a garage, badly enough that he wasn't moving again, and fluids started pouring out of his engine. ...
