[T]his is very good burger, but anything that is this expensive has to be out-of-this-world. A fried egg and cheddar cheese in no way make this a luxurious burger, you end up paying for the allure of the Liberty Hotel, which is unique in its own way, but the ambiance should not dictate the price of a hamburger.

One McDonald's open until 2 a.m. more than enough for Allston, civic association says

The Allston Civic Association will oppose plans by the owner of the Brighton Mills McDonald's to extend his hours until 2 a.m., the Crimson reports.

The association voted 7-6 to oppose the later hours. Members cited the precedent that letting the burger joint stay open would have and said only transients from away would be likely to eat there that late. Owner Bob King says he needs the extra hours to make up for the anticipated loss of revenue during the relocation of the nearby Charlesview Apartments.

King also owns the McDonald's on Harvard Avenue. Last year, the civic association fought King when he proposed a 2 a.m. closing there, citing similar concerns. However, the Boston Licensing Board - the ultimate arbiter on closing hours - voted to extend the hours, in part because the Kelly's across the street already had a 2 a.m. closing time.

The owner of the McDonald's at 718 American Legion Highway goes before the Boston Licensing Board on Weds., Oct. 6, seeking permission to stay open 24 hours a day. The burger outlet is currently open 7 a.m. to midnight.

The Boston Licensing Board voted today to let the franchisee of the McDonald's at Harvard and Commonwealth avenues stay open until 2 a.m.

The board overturned its decision five years ago to limit the restaurant to an 11 p.m. closing time after a hearing yesterday at which franchise owner Bob King said he would have to shut the outlet without additional revenue from the extra hours. He also pleaded for fairness because the board had voted last year to let a rival Kelly's open until 2 a.m. in the old Marty's right across the street from his outlet.

The move was opposed by the Allston Civic Association, which does not like bars and restaurants open that late.

You don't tend to think of a McDonald's just disappearing, but that's what happened to the one on Hyde Park Avenue. Don't worry, though - it's being replaced by an all new McDonald's (whose franchisee also owns the Harvard Avenue McDonald's).

And while it's normally hard to feel nostalgic about some twisted plastic tubing, darnit, those tubes are the first play-place tubes the kidlet ever climbed in.

The McDonald's at Harvard and Commonwealth avenues has became the latest battleground in a rapidly escalating war over restaurant closing hours in Allston.

Bob King, owner of the franchise, told the Boston Licensing Board today that McDonald's will make him shut the outlet unless he can increase sales - and the only way for him to do that, especially with a competing Kelly's opening up across the street, is to extend the current 11 p.m. closing time to 2 a.m.

The board decides tomorrow whether to grant the request. King originally sought 3 a.m.; over the past year, a number of Allston restaurants have sought board permission to open until 3 a.m.; the board has scaled all back.

The MetroWest Daily News reports a Marlborough city-council committee is urging approval of a Sonic burger stand on Rte. 20, over concerns by one councilor the stand would bring traffic to a standstill as hordes of frenzied burger buyers descend on the quiet little city from around the region.

There's already a Sonic in Peabody, with a second one being built in Wilmington.
