State Police report a Canton man walking on 128 south in Needham was killed by a hit-and-run driver early this morning. State Police did not say why the man was walking on the highway, but said the vehicle that killed him left behind debris that investigators are now analyzing for possible clues.
MassDOT announced today that it's replacing its plans to shut the Sumner Tunnel between May and September this year with plans to shut it between July 5 and Aug. 31, as it works to renovate the 88-year-old tunnel. Read more.

Shortly before 4:45 p.m., a car on the southbound side of I-93 in the tunnel erupted in flames. And that's why the ventilation shaft at Essex Street and Surface Road began belching black smoke.
The Dorchester Reporter reports MassDOT is looking at a new, $122-million bridge to replace the current drawbridge because while the bridge is not yet falling down, falling down, it is crumbling. Any replacement, which could be years away, would be coordinated with state plans to raise Morrissey Boulevard, which now floods on the regular.

The Massachusetts Appeals Court ruled today that a woman who has the right to park in a space at a North End condo building, even though she doesn't live there, has to pay property tax on the space. Read more.

The normal weekend shutdown of the Sumner Tunnel for repairs has been called off for this weekend because of the extreme cold.
So far this afternoon, MassDOT reports there was a multi-car crash at the entrance to the O'Neill Tunnel northbound that shut the left lane and an "overheight" tractor trailer that jammed up the entrance to the Callahan Tunnel. Both scenes now clear.
Blue Hill Avenue between Moreland and Dudley streets is shut so National Grid can plug a gas leak.
