Watertown News reports Watertown Police, a local Toyota dealer and a sign painter have teamed up on a free program to spray paint "Property of Watertown Police" on the catalytic converters of older Priuses - which are particularly popular with thieves - in the hopes that will make the expensive devices harder for thieves to resell.

The Crimson reports Cambridge officials will take a look at banning right-on-red as a way to reduce crashes both with pedestrians and other vehicles. Right turns on red are generally banned in New York, except at some intersections on Staten Island, the city's most suburban borough.

A Dorchester man was released on personal recognizance - but ordered to attend AA meetings - at his arraignment today on a variety of charges for an incident in South Boston early Saturday in which he allegedly stole a car, fell into a drunken stupor at a traffic light, accelerated when two Boston cops woke him up, then offered them $10,000 to let him go, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Alrighty then: A driver with a professional driver's license didn't plan out his route, ignored the "CARS ONLY" signs, got on Soldiers Field Road inbound overnight and, boom, storrowed his expensive vehicle smack into the Grand Junction train bridge by the BU Bridge. Read more.

Update: Victim identified as Mark McAuliffe, 49, whose last known permanent address was in Malden.

State Police report a man trying to walk across I-93 near South Bay made it across the outbound side and the median OK, but as soon as he jumped a barrier onto the inbound side was hit by a Highlander and thrown back onto the outbound side, suffering fatal injuries, around 9:40 p.m. on Saturday. Leslee got a great view from the Fairfield Street pedestrian bridge of a truck whose driver got a fresh haircut at the Mass. Ave. Bridge - and then decided that was good enough and so didn't go for a double storrowing at Fairfield.

Flipped over truck at Grand Junction bridge

Live Boston reports that around 2:30 a.m., the driver of a box truck slammed into the train bridge under the BU Bridge, flipping the truck on its side, spilling fuel all and his cargo all over the road and briefly getting himself entrapped before being rescued by firefighters. Read more.

MassDOT officials said tonight workers are busy fixing defective welds on the new North Washington Street Bridge and that they should be done by the end of December, letting non-repair construction resume in January - with a goal of switching three vehicle lanes and sidewalks over from the current temporary bridge in December, 2023. MassDOT told Hyde Park residents last night they're going to have to keep detouring around the bridge over the train tracks through Cleary Square until at least spring, 2025, which is the earliest officials say they can have a new River Street bridge built. Read more.

Rental truck stuck but not stuck

Can a truck truly be storrowed if its roof isn't peeled back even if it's clearly under a Storrow Drive bridge? A roving UHub photographer came upon this river-road manifestation of Schroedinger's Cat today at the Mass. Ave. exit, where a truck whose driver has obviously managed to get partway under the bridge around 4:20 p.m. shows no obvious signs of roof damage. Read more.

Crash at intersection of Walter and Centre in Roslindale

Tom the roving UHub photographer couldn't help but stop to take in the crash at Walter and Centre streets in Roslindale around 12:40 p.m. - since the two cars were now occupying the space where he had hope to go to turn left. No injuries that he could tell.

MassDOT has announced two public online meetings to discuss the bridge, and we're going to be optimistic and assume they're not going to go to all the trouble just to announce that the project is still dead in the water. Read more.
