Kristopher Soderberg, 38, of West Roxbury walked out of West Roxbury Municipal Court last week with a suspended six-month jail sentence after he was convicted of drunk driving and assault and battery.

Soderberg was arraigned today - in a bed at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center - by a West Roxbury Municipal Court justice on one count of armed assault with intent to rob and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, following a bloody incident at a Grove Street market that left two other people with stab wounds as well, one to the chest, one requiring a tourniquet at the scene to reduce the bleeding. A man who wasn't allowed to bring his dog into the tiny Familia Grocery on Grove Street returned around 9:30 p.m. with a knife, WCVB reports.

Trench being dug for new high-pressure gas line on Washington Street in West Roxbury

Workers for Algonquin Gas Transmission were busy today digging a trench up Washington Street just past the Dedham line so they can lay down a high-pressure natural-gas pipeline that will end at a new transfer station at Grove and Centre Streets, across from the West Roxbury quarry.

A judge dismissed the city's challenges to the pipeline three weeks ago. At a rally last weekend, residents vowed civil disobedience to stop the pipeline.

West Roxbury developer Peter Davos has filed a letter of intent with the BRA to build 84 residential units in a four-story building at 1235 VFW Parkway, the one-time home of an IHOP that over the past couple of decades has served as a parking lot and the site of a sign advertising stump removal. Inflatable pipeline crosses Lagrange Street

Some 200 protesters, joined by several city councilors and a state representative, vowed today to continue their fight against the proposed Westwood-to-West-Roxbury natural-gas pipeline down Washington and Grove streets.

Organizer Chuck Collins said at a rally at Billings Field that 160 people have already received civil-disobedience training to put themselves in the way of Spectra Energy construction equipment once it gets to the West Roxbury line on Washington Street. Read more.

The Montreal Gazette talks to former Canadiens enforcer Chris "Knuckles" Nilan about "Black Mass." Seems Nilan was once married to Whitey's stepdaughter, so he's obviously qualified to talk about the movie. Also, he's "a product of Boston’s rough-and-tumble West Roxbury," the Gazette reports. The meeting was not quite as boisterous as past sessions. But at the one hearing the BRA was required to hold, residents of Lagrange Street and nearby side streets told landlord Michael Argiros they still can't stomach his proposal for apartments on Lagrange just off Centre because it's too big. The Eastern Bank branch on Centre Street at Lagrange is closing in December, apparent victim of a tiny parking lot off a busy intersection. No word if it will be replaced by another bank, a funeral home or a pizza place.
