A beaver in water with some fresh greens

Mary Ellen watched this beaver at Cow Island Pond (the part of the Charles off Rivermoor Street in West Roxbury) make several trips with fresh greens the other day - so maybe bringing lunch home for the kids, rather than doing construction.

The Boston Parks and Recreation Department plans to clean up the banks of the Charles River at Millennium Park by trying to rid the area of Japanese knotweed and oriental bittersweet and by removing various metal tanks and tubes that have popped up from the park's previous life as the Gardner Street city landfill. The new playground at Millennium Park in West Roxbury, delayed by Covid-related supply-chain shortages (it's not like you can just buy large-scale playground equipment at the Target), could be open by Memorial Day, but definitely no later than 9:30 a.m. on June 10, when Boston Parks and Recreation is planning a formal ribbon cutting, according to project manager Lauren Bryant.

Lisa Kashinsky reports that William MacGregor has won the special Democratic primary in the 10th Suffolk District (West Roxbury, Roslindale, Jamaica Plain and South Brookline) over Robert Orthman and Celia Segel, which means he will likely succeed former state Rep. Ed Coppinger since there are no Republican or other candidates for the final later this month.

Democratic voters in the 10th Suffolk state representative's district (West Roxbury and parts of Roslindale, Jamaica Plain and South Brookline) vote tomorrow in a special primary to determine who gets on the ballot later this month, but since there are no Republican or independents running, the winner will most likely replace Ed Coppinger, who resigned from the seat earlier this year.
