A short circuit in wiring between the first and second floors of 145 Cottage Rd. in West Roxbury sparked a fire yesterday that did an estimated $150,000 in damage, the Boston Fire Department reports.

Two residents of the Centre/Grove Street area stood vigil tonight in front of the site where Spectra Energy wants to terminate a large natural-gas pipeline with a "metering and regulating" transfer station for National Grid - across the street from the quarry where they worry ongoing blasting could cause a disaster with the pipeline or transfer station.

Dedham Police report they're looking for this guy for purse snatchings at the Stop & Shop and Star Market in their town and at the Roche Bros. in West Roxbury, in which he targets senior citizens who leave their purses unattended.

McDonald explains natural gas risks in West Roxbury

McDonald paints a dire picture for West Roxbury residents.

Residents already inured to explosions at the West Roxbury quarry gathered tonight to get scared even more by the high-pressure natural-gas line planned for Grove and Centre streets along one side of the quarry - and the proposed transfer station across the street from it that would feed the out-of-state gas into National Grid's Boston-area distribution system.

Fire on Caledonian Avenue in West Roxbury

Updated Friday morning.

A two-alarm fire Thursday night did an estimated $300,000 in damage to a house on Caledonian Avenue, behind Sofia's Italian Steakhouse on the VFW Parkway, the Boston Fire Department reports.

Both occupants of the house got out safely after the fire erupted shortly before 9:20 p.m. at 81 Caledonian Ave.
