On a walk in Millennium Park in West Roxbury this morning, Mary Ellen looked across the Charles at reeds covered in snow that would soon melt.

Ruffled feathers on an eagle bird

Mary Ellen spotted this wind-tossed eagle at Millennium Park in West Roxbury today. She says she spotted three in total: Two adults and one young'un, still mostly brown, and carrying a stick in his or her beak down by the boat launch.

A man in a crosswalk at Centre and Hastings streets was hit by a Centre Street driver around 4:25 p.m. on Thursday, Boston Police say. The victim, who police say did not suffer serious injuries, was taken to a local hospital for observation. Read more.

PBS's "This Old House yesterday started a new season focusing on Derek Rubinoff and Robyn Marder's 1894 home on a side street off Lagrange.

The ten-episode series follow as Rubinoff - himself an architect - and Marder and the show crew try to turn a 19th-century Victorian that had its last major upgrade in World War II into a 21st-century home while maintaining its Victorian charm.

The Boston City Archives has posted digitized copies of oral histories taken by city interviewers in 1975 and 1976 in West Roxbury (as part of Boston's bicentennial celebrations). Included are reminiscences of the growth of the neighborhood's Syrian Orthodox and Jewish communities, the history of Roxbury Latin School and the Catholic Women's Club.
