Channel 4
Are they really going to burn notebooks?
Globe unions rally at Faneuil Hall today at noon, with support from a whole lot of local politicians.
Paula Ebben at Channel 4 wonders if it's seemly for a newspaper to seek help from the people it normally covers or whether it makes sense for politicians to show support "for a huge local business and employer under siege by an out-of-state owner?"
Marathon streaming online
Channel 4 is streaming its race coverage - but only for us New Englanders (the rest of the world, and New Englanders with non-New England IP addresses, have to follow along on Twitter).
Steve Garfield's BU journalism students are streaming, Twittering, photographing live.
And, of course, the Globe's there.
TV station, state transportation czar shocked, shocked to discover collective bargaining going on
Like, oh my God, Massport is paying for dry cleaning for employees! Channel 4 breathlessly reports the story and Jim Aloisi pretends to be absolutely shocked at the outrage.
Of course, as Channel 4 does acknowledge, the dry cleaning is for the uniforms that employees wear as part of their jobs, because God forbid a state authority want its workers to look decent as they deal with the public or that employees negotiate something like this as part of their contracts because they don't want to pay for something their employer forces them to wear. And Jim Aloisi used to be the head lawyer at the turnpike authority, so you'd think he'd know more about how collective bargaining works than to fulminate that "the next time we negotiate with these folks, dry cleaning will be off the table."
The slimming effects of green clothing
Unfortunately, it only works for weather forecasters on TV. Oh, and traffic reporters:
Attention media: The Orange Line is a subway
Does anybody in Boston TV actually take the T?
In a story about the alleged grampa groper, Channel 4 said he was caught on the MBTA commuter train. In its story, Channel 5 said he was caught on an Orange Line trolley.
Surprisingly, the Pervo Post, um, the Herald, has yet to report on the arrest.
The curious case of Steve Garfield
You know what we need? More bloggers on TV!
Why the Web was invented: Watch a deer stumble on ice
Channel 4 sent its news chopper out to Waltham today so we could all watch dramatic "raw footage" of a deer foundering on an ice-covered reservoir.
Oh, speaking of ice: Will you people stop going on it? You're starting to annoy the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
CBS censors Channel 4 clip it didn't like on YouTube
You may recall that YouTube clip showing some Masshole cursing out a Channel 4 reporter sliding toward him in a van during our first major snowstorm of the season - and Jack Williams's droll response. Hanover and Prince reports today that YouTube has yanked the video because some lawyer at CBS has apparently decided "fair use" only applies to people who can afford expensive television studios:
CBS Broadcasting, Inc has claimed some or all audio and visual content in your video Random Dude Drops F-Bomb During Live Storm Coverage on Boston TV News. This claim was made as part of the YouTube Content Identification program.
Your video is no longer available because CBS Broadcasting, Inc has chosen to block it.
Massholes in the snow!
Hanover and Prince posts video of a Channel 4 reporter in a van and some anonymous Masshole pedestrian exchanging pleasantries during a live report. Jack Williams's reaction to some on-air f-bombing is priceless.
