The Zoning Board of Appeal today rejected a proposal to stick a newfangled digital billboard atop a Lincoln Street business next to the Massachusetts Turnpike after hearing from elected officials and neighborhood groups that 60-foot-high structure would become a blight in an up-and-coming area, even if its LEDs would be designed to only beam into the eyes of drivers on the highway. 27 Walnut St. in Hyde Park

Not much to look at, but the focus of two court decisions now.

The Massachusetts Appeals Court today rejected a woman's attempts to force the city of Boston to let her drive trucks over a tiny, unpaved bit of land to a former fabrication shop on Walnut Street in Hyde Park, because the deed that allegedly gave her real-estate trust ownership of the property was a fake. Treasures, a thrift and antique shop, opened today at 4266 Washington St. in Roslindale Square, in the space where the Boston Smoke Shop used to be.

Meanwhile, workers today were converting the space where the Grossman's bargain outlet used to be at 630 American Legion Highway into space for Urban Renewals, which will be moving there from its current location on Brighton Avenue in Allston ... Read more.

Pegasystems, which makes software for large corporations, has shown enough proof that it was damaged by a research report claiming a competitor's offerings were far superior that it can continue its federal lawsuit against the competitor that secretly paid for the report and the research firm that wrote it, a judge ruled today. WBZ reports that a Suffolk Superior Court judge this morning sentenced Kevin Otto, owner of Atlantic Drain Service of Roslindale, to two years in jail for the deaths of two of his workers in a trench at Dartmouth and Tremont streets in the South End in 2016. Read more.

The Zoning Board of Appeal yesterday rejected a Dollar Tree store proposed for 493 Washington St. in Codman Square after aides to Mayor Walsh and City Councilor Andrea Campbell said that it could cause traffic problems and, besides, there's already a Dollar Tree a mile away on Talbot Avenue. Massachusetts Beverage Business reports that a group representing the state's package stores is suing to block a proposed 2020 referendum that would let convenience-store chains, specifically Cumberland Farms, own as many liquor licenses as they want.

The plaintiffs, led by Sav-Mor Liquors Benjamin Weiner, said AG Maura Healey blew it by approving the measure, in part because it asks voters to do four separate things and the state constitution only allows ballot questions to ask voters to do just one thing at a time.

WBUR reports the Massachusetts State Police bomb squad got some loaners of Boston Dynamics's "Spot" robots - basically the pets a Terminator might have - and actually used them in the field at least twice. State Police declined to say exactly how they used them; the ACLU, of course, has some questions.
