NBC Boston reports Tufts Health Plan and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care are looking to become a single insurer. No word on which college name will get dropped from the new entity or if they'll just have a computer generate some nebulous sounding new name.

The Globe reports that the owners of Cumberland Farms has filed a proposed ballot question that would let chains like, oh, Cumberland Farms, sell liquor at as many stores as it wants.
Under current state law - the result of a compromise between pure packies and supermarket chains - by 2020, companies will be able to hold as many as nine liquor licenses in the state.

The Boston Fire Department reports roughly 50 gallons of oil spilled onto the driveway at the Aamco transmission shop at 125 Cambridge St. in Charlestown around 9 a.m. while being pumped into a reclamation truck after it was full up.
Through liberal use of absorbent material, the BFD hazmat team contained the spill - and will remain on scene until it is fully cleaned up and removed.

Construction workers hit a high-pressure two-inch gas main on Temple Street shortly before 10:30 a.m. The Boston Fire Department has shut the street until National Grid can turn off the gas.

Jamaica Plain News reports that the corner spot at Centre and Burroughs streets vacated when Bukhara decamped for distant Forest Hills will be turned into a Chase bank branch by the end of October. The move will ease the critical bank shortage caused a couple years ago when Caffe Nero replaced a Commonwalth Bank branch down the street from the location.

The Jamaica Plain Gazette reports a former employee at the shuttered Eugene O'Neill's, across from the Forest Hills T stop, wants to re-open the watering hole, but with acoustic music.
Melissa Hunt goes before the Boston Licensing Board this Wednesday to seek a 1 a.m. liquor license. Hearings begin at 10 a.m. in Room 809 in City Hall.

The Supreme Judicial Court today upheld a state commission's ruling to suspend a liquor chain's license for several days at two stores because it sold alcohol at costs lower than the invoice price it paid, in violation of state regulations. Read more.

The Massachusetts Appeals Court ruled today that an oil company that has long used OrderMyOil.com to sell heating oil online has no case against a competitor that set up OrderYourOil.com, because the words "order" and "oil" are just too generic to deserve any sort of competitive protection under state law, never mind federal trademark law.
