Gay math

A Superior Court judge rules Rhode Island gays and lesbians can get married in Massachusetts.

Lissa Harris does some quick calculations and concludes: Good news for the Bay State economy.

Adam Reilly notes a potential battle between AG Tom Reilly, who says he won't contest the ruling and Presidential dauphin Mitt Romney, who really, really needs that evangelical vote and so tells Reilly (the AG, not the columnist) he'd be more than happy to suggest some ad-hoc legal representation for the Commonwealth to appeal.

Tom Reilly spotted alive

Steadfast Correspondent spotted Tom Reilly on the path along the Charles in Watertown yesterday.

... He was wearing a State Police jump suit and he was walking by himself. I was a little surprised to see him all the way at the corner of North Beacon and Charles River Road because it's kind of a hike from his Palfrey Street house. It was kind of sad too. It was about 5:00 p.m. -- one hour before the scheduled gubernatorial debate between Kerry Healey, Deval Patrick, Christy Mihos and Grace Ross on Fox 25.

Incumbent felon Dianne Wilkerson clings to victory over Sonia Chang-Diaz in the 2nd Suffolk senate race (look for Chang-Diaz to call for a recount). Reilly downfall Marie St. Fleur wins another term in the 5th Suffolk state rep's race. Steve Lynch proves he's no Lieberman; squashes Lamontish Dunkelbarger in Boston's end of the ninth congressional district. Maura Hennigan looks to enjoy her retirement years in the Superior Court criminal clerk's office. Mickey Roache gets another term in the rocking chair at the Registry of Deeds.

The Globe's first video blog

I spent the weekend chasing gubernatorial candidates with my camcorder.....produced three video clips....and then I posted them on a video blog that's linked to the Globe's politics page.

I asked the candidates about their favorite music...and I asked Chris Gabrieli about the first concert he attended.....(it turns out his first show was Elvis Costello at the Orpheum in 1978).

There are three clips so far - one each for Reilly, Gabrieli, and Patrick - and they run about five minutes long. It's worth a look!

All twisted into a big, giant endorsement knot

Much gnashing of teeth among the local blogocracy over the recent gubernatorial endorsements of the two local dailies - Globe for Patrick and Herald for Reilly:

Dan Kennedy doesn't get why Globe endorsements never mention the candidates the paper doesn't find worthy (except, apparently, when it comes to the secretary of state race).

John Daley adds up the Globe's Patrick endorsement and the Herald's Reilly endorsement and figures Gabrieli will win next week.

Fitzgerald of the Herald (who had nothing to do with the endorsement), however, says possibly more important than the paper's nod is the fact that many mayors still back Reilly.

On Blue Mass. Group, David thinks the Herald's Reilly endorsement can only help Patrick by drawing moderate voters away from Gabrieli.

Over at the Globe, though, David Dahl goes outside and starts looking for black helicopters, arguing the Herald really endorsed Reilly to help get Patrick the nomination so Healey can then wipe the floor with him in November.

Two-faced Globe coverage of the Fleurasco

John Daley smacks the Globe for reporting on the controversy surrounding the source of that leaked Marie St. Fleur memo even as it admits in passing that it knows who gave it the document:

... So the Globe knows whether Reilly's vocal and pointed accusations are true or false and they know whether Gabrieli's firm denials are true or false. But we in the public are in the dark on an issue bearing on the integrity and honesty of two officials running for an important office. I thought newspapers were supposed to inform us about these things, not hide them from us. ...

But what did Bill Belichick think of the debate?

Ed Prisby imagines Belichick's comments at a post-debate press conference.

At Pasquinade, Amy said the debate was pure comedy gold:

... Chris Gabrieli stood about two and a half feet taller than Tom Reilly and Deval Patrick, with a completely goofy expression on his face. With the three podiums next to each other, it looked like an SNL version of Celebrity Jeopardy. Tom Reilly twitched like a rabid dog on a leash, and Deval Patrick stood smoothly at his podium. ...

Running transcript of the Democratic debate

Political Intelligence blogs up a storm at tonight's gubernatorial debate.

Andy at Mass Revolution Now jumps on Reilly's performance:

... I thought that Reilly's debate prep was most likely done in a locker room just before the debate where he put on a helmet and had his campaign staff slap him on the head while shouting things like "who's got a big house in Milton while you are still renting in Watertown!" ...

Adam Reilly declares Reilly's campaign dead.

Mass. Marrier says goodbye to Reilly:

... We watched the debate with our Boston Latin School student, who had that as an assignment. We restrained ourselves. Even in our silence, we heard him hooting and snorting at Tom's bluster and jive. Our AG is not credible even to a 16-year-old. ...

Dan Kennedy links to way more comments, from both the MSM and bloggers.
