The Supreme Judicial Court today dismissed a lawsuit by a Revere lawyer challenging the way Boston gave the Red Sox permanent access to Jersey Street, saying he was not directly harmed by the sale and so had no "standing" to sue. Read more.

The Supreme Judicial Court ruled today the city of Boston was wrong to try tax Veolia Energy's network of steam pipes through Boston Proper, ruling that, collectively, they are parts of a "great integral machine," which have been exempt from taxation since an 1866 ruling. Read more.

Boston Restaurant Talk reports the Fresh Pond Market, open since 1922 on Huron Avenue, will be closing for good on either Sept. 14 or 15.

The Somerville Kmart will close by mid-November, the Globe reports. It is the last store remaining from the old Assembly Square Mall, which opened in 1980.

Kmart is also closing stores in Brockton, Palmer, and Webster, as well as many other places throughout the country. The nearest remaining Kmarts (probably not for much longer) will be in Acton and Billerica.

Shamus Moynihan spotted the Lenox Hotel lit up in Pride colors, with a Pride flag flying out front tonight. Hmm, why would a Copley Square hotel want to show off Pride colors tonight? It's a wonder.

Workers have been busy this week installing a $30,000 set of glass panes to replace the plywood boards that long blocked light from getting into the front of the old trolley substation at Washington Street and Cummins Highway in Roslindale Square. Read more.

NBC Boston reports Tufts Health Plan and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care are looking to become a single insurer. No word on which college name will get dropped from the new entity or if they'll just have a computer generate some nebulous sounding new name.

The Globe reports that the owners of Cumberland Farms has filed a proposed ballot question that would let chains like, oh, Cumberland Farms, sell liquor at as many stores as it wants.

Under current state law - the result of a compromise between pure packies and supermarket chains - by 2020, companies will be able to hold as many as nine liquor licenses in the state.

What a mess in Charlestown

The Boston Fire Department reports roughly 50 gallons of oil spilled onto the driveway at the Aamco transmission shop at 125 Cambridge St. in Charlestown around 9 a.m. while being pumped into a reclamation truck after it was full up.

Through liberal use of absorbent material, the BFD hazmat team contained the spill - and will remain on scene until it is fully cleaned up and removed.
