A crackdown on underage drinkers in Cleveland Circle has sent the fake-ID crowd outward in Brighton, forcing bars that want no part of them to step up their ID checking.

The news came too late for Porter Belly's, on Washington Street in Brighton Center, which found itself before the Boston Licensing Board this morning to explain why police snared two underage drinkers there one night in September - one of whom needed a ride down to District D-14 after he allegedly tried to evade a police detective asking to see his real ID, not the fake license in his wallet. Boston College says it's doing its part to minimize the impact of students in the 17-story apartment building it bought on Comm. Ave. in part by installing locks that will keep students from opening windows more than six inches - and which will make apartment balconies completely off limits to them.

The arrest this week of an alleged New York capo on a variety of organized crime charges might seem to have little to do with Boston, especially not the planning and execution of a huge heist at Kennedy Airport.

The Massachusetts Appeals Court today upheld the dismissal of a lawsuit by three Brighton residents against a major expansion plan by Boston College.

In their suit, residents said the BRA was a "quasi judicial" body and therefore violated the state constitution in approving a 10-year, $1.6-billion "institutional master plan" by holding private discussions with college officials and not swearing in people testifying in public on the proposal or letting the residents cross-examine anybody who testified. The result of the BRA process was changes to the city zoning code, which were then approved by the Boston Zoning Commission.

The six seniors were arraigned in Brighton District Court today on charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime and willful and malicious destruction of property over $250, the DA's office says.
