Yep, that's right, one-minute plays. Little blurbs of storytelling, sparks of ideas. There will be 70 such sparks written by 35 different Boston playwrights. It should be an energetic evening, and one that offers a concentrated sampling of whatever has been in the creative air around here lately.

It’s been years since the eponymous WBCN radio graced the airwaves but its legacy has not been forgotten. During the golden era of underground stations, WBCN was belting out its message of revolution during the civil rights times of 1968 to 1974. Keeping the nostalgia alive, curator Bill Lichtenstein has compiled a vast library of archival footage for a new documentary film about the station and the time it affected. “We’ve received more than 50,000 pieces of memorabilia, donated by people across the country…we’re counting on this nationwide enthusiasm — from both those who were there and from young people inspired by what WBCN meant,” Lichtenstein said. Like many other artists today, Bill has taken to the internet with a call to arms. The project will be funded by those who care about it most on Kickstarter.com

Bryce Lambert explains why he's disappointed in the Pysch Drama Company's version of Hamlet at the BCA - You'd think a group focusing on clinical psychology would devote more attention to the central issue of whether Hamlet is really mad rather than on distracting the audience by making him a lesbian and then tarting the whole thing up:

There are some great scenes, Lippe's "to be or not to be" and her interactions with the ghost, but the show comes off as too much Lippe's solo endeavor, without the cohesion and subtlety required for a real look into Hamlet's psyche.

Licensing board agrees with club it couldn't have done anything to stop patron from shooting up the street outside

The Boston Licensing Board decided today to let Venu on Warrenton Street continue to stay open until 2 a.m., rather than penalize it for a Nov. 18 incident in which police say a clubgoer left at closing, spotted three rival gang members, got a gun and started shooting, hitting two of them and two bystanders.

At a hearing on Tuesday, club officials said the man did not come into the club with a gun and caused no trouble in the club that night. They also noted they turned over video and photos that helped police identify the suspect, Samuel Higginbottom, 23, of Dorchester. Following the Nov. 18 shootings, some city officials called on the club to voluntarily shut down until the licensing-board hearing; the club said no.

The hearing was called to determine whether the board would roll the club's hours back because of both the quadruple shooting and a series of other incidents over the past two years, many at closing, which have tied up police officers from across the city.
