WCVB reports a pet tortoise that vanished from its Dedham home in 2019 appeared this year in Roslindale, where some Facebook sleuthing reunited the long-lived reptile with its owner.

You may recall how Venkman the Corn Snake went on a yearlong slither-about in Roslindale before being reunited with his owner last year.

The Dedham Planning Board meets tonight to consider a developer's proposal for a six-story, 120-room hotel on Eastern Avenue, behind the Papa Gino's, Pep Boys and Petco on Providence Highway, and a separate developer's proposal to turn a long abandoned empty shell of a building on Bridge Street into a residential building. The state Department of Environmental Protection could decide later this summer whether to add Sprague Pond at the Readville/Dedham line off Sprague Street to its official list of "Commonwealth great ponds." Read more.

Sprague Pond, with the Northeast Corridor tracks and the Great Blue Hill behind it.

The Hyde Park Historical Society has asked the state to formally designate Sprague Pond, just off Sprague Street and next to the Northeast Corridor train tracks at the Dedham line, as an official "great pond." Read more.

Bald eagle in Cutler Park

I don't know, I love the river views, but seems kinda small.

Mary Ellen traversed the Charles this morning and spotted a couple of bald eagles in Cutler Park along the Needham/Dedham line, across from West Roxbury - possibly checking out good nesting spots.

Atlas Kebab and Grill, coming soon

A Walpole man is getting ready to open Atlas Kebab and Grill at 37 Bridge St., in Dedham, where the Subway used to be, across the street from Moseley's on the Charles and just over the river from Spring Street in West Roxbury.

The Dedham select board approved Mohammed Ouknouz's request for a food-serving license on Jan. 21.

Organizers of the James Joyce Ramble, a Dedham 10K in which runners race people reading aloud from the works of Joyce while also raising funds for a local charity and promoting human rights, say they have called off this April's race - but are already making plans for next year's. Read more.

Boston Restaurant Talk reports an outlet of the Jersey Mike's sub chain has opened in a (gasp!) closed Dunkin' Donuts in that sort of rotary where Washington Street and Providence Highway (no longer confused with Rte. 1!) meet in Dedham.

That only solidifies that stretch of Providence Highway-into-VFW Parkway as one of the fast-food chainiest stretches of road in the immediate Boston area. Read more.

She had many passions and interests, including keeping tabs on the criminality of the current President and his administration; mercifully, she lived to see him voted out of office.

The Dedham Board of Health announced today the town has "a significant rise" in Covid-19 cases - 17 in the past week - and says most of the new cases are in young children and teens. Read more.

Fallon Ambulance is setting up a Covid-19 testing site at the bucolic Endicott Estate, 656 East St., now that the town has made the state's list of "red" towns, likely due to some local teenagers who couldn't resist partying like it was the Before Times. Read more.
