A Suffolk Superior Court jury today deadlocked on the murder charge against Onyx White, charged with first-degree murder for the death of Geraldo Serrano, 71, during a robbery at the Hermanos Unidos store, 728 Dudley St., according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, which announced plans to re-try White before a new jury. The Supreme Judicial Court ruled today that prosecutors can't use evidence found on the phone of a man charged with murdering an Uphams Corner convenience-store clerk because police seized the phone without any initial proof it had a connection to the murder, then waited 68 days before submitting a search-warrant request based on evidence that it might.

The ruling won't stop prosecutors from trying Onyx White, just 16 at the time, on charges he fatally shot Geraldo Serrano, 71, in the Hermanos Unidos store on Dudley Street on Feb. 21, 2010.

A Roxbury District Court judge ordered two Roxbury teenagers held without bail this morning for the murder of Hermanos Unidos clerk Geraldo Serrano on Sunday, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Martin Freeles, 17, and Onyx White, 16, both face trial as adults on charges of murder, armed robbery while masked, and firearms offenses. The DA's office provided this account of Serrano's death around 10:30 a.m. at the Dudley Street store, by assistant DA David Fredette:

Boston Police tonight announced the arrests of Onyx White, 16, and Martin Freeles, 17, for the murder of Geraldo Serrano in the Hermanos Unidos store on Dudley Street Sunday morning.

Both teens will be tried as adults, Police Commissioner Ed Davis said, adding police have the guns allegedly used in the murder and that cooperation from the community helped lead police to the pair.

Boston Police report a 71-year-old clerk at Hermanos Unidos, 728 Dudley St., was shot to death around 10:30 a.m.

Police are looking for two guys, one in a red hoodie, one in a black hoodie, whom witnesses spotted going into the store. The victim was taken to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
