Older Green Line trolleys are being refurbished at a facility in upstate New York. Paul MacMaster watched one of them being delivered to Riverside today.
We weren't the only ones who wondered what would happen when all those exhausted Globe reporters went home Sunday after delivering papers. Looks like David Bernstein found their replacement: A "sharing economy" startup that launched last year to hire people to staff parties is now looking for people to assemble and deliver newspapers out of some unspecified media organization's distribution centers in Newton and Pembroke, which just happen to be where the Globe has distribution centers.
They're paying $12 an hour, plus you get $24 a day for car expenses. And you can start, as the ad says, TONIGHT! Even better:
After you deliver the papers you are free to go straight home and you do not need to report back to the distribution center.
Oh, but you will have to report at 2 a.m.
The Green Line was hampered this morning by trolleys that approached the pearly gates westbound at Haymarket and inbound at Woodland.

Service in both directions on the Worcester Line was halted around 8:30 a.m. upon discovery of a suspicious package at Newtonville. Police declared the package not suspicious about 15 minutes later and trains were free to go about their business.
The 208-year-old Andover Newton Theological School plans to sell its current campus and either set up shop as a smaller school or become part of the Yale Divinity School:
Today, Andover Newton must move in a bold new direction to ensure our work and mission continue to thrive. In part, this is necessitated by seismic changes that are taking place in the church and, by extension, in theological education. Like most independent theological schools, enrollment at Andover Newton has been in steady decline for more than 10 years due to a contracting applicant pool. As much as we cherish it, the large campus we occupy today was built to meet the needs of another era. It is clear that Andover Newton’s current mode of being - even with modifications - is not financially sustainable.
Not only is the institution struggling financially, but those for whom it exists are, too: student debt is soaring to the point where leaders at Andover Newton worry that graduates will be unable to enter ministry due to their financial obligations.

In a suit filed this week in US District Court in Boston, the family of David Lelchook say Hezbollah could never have undertaken a large rocket barrage against Israel that year without Iranian backing. Read more.

In the early 1970s, the MBTA launched an ambitious effort to upgrade the Riverside Line that included reconstructing the tracks and the purchase of 150 new trolleys from Boeing Vertol. Jed Hresko found a flier from those halcyon days that included a description of the new cars:

The Newton Fire Department reports two workers at the Franklin Elementary School were transported to Mass. General around 7 a.m. when a boiler malfunctioned.
The school is closed for the day as authorities investigate what happened.
Outbound riders on the Riverside Line had to board buses for the ride between Reservoir and Riverside this morning due to your basic generic "power" problems. The T says it's fixed now.

After dealing with a downed limb on power lines in Brookline, MBTA crews are now off to Newton Highlands, where another tree has come down on power lines along the Riverside Line.
