Police Sgt Jeff Perry protected felon "officer strip-search" not the teenage girls

Then a 14 year old teenager, Lisa Allen came forward Wednesday to tell her side of the story when Republican candidate for US Congress former police officer Sgt Jeff Perry, failed to protect Ms. Allen from Officer Scott Flanagan who performed an illegal strip-search of her. Police officers are entrusted to, and take an oath to, serve and protect. Ms. Allen said Officer Perry protected Officer Flanagan but not her. Ms Allen went further and said Perry "should not be in a position of power."

Campaign roundup: How do you ignore the biggest political story of the day?

You're an editor for a metropolitan daily. Which story do you put on the front page: Jeff Perry and the strip search or Barney Frank lending his campaign some money? If you're the Herald, you go with the latter (don't forget to throw in some stuff about how Frank is "panic stricken") and ignore the former (save for a Margery Egan column declaring Perry is a cretin).

Strip-seach victim says Jeff Perry shouldn't be allowed anywhere near Washington

The Globe posts a statement by Lisa Allen, the then-14-year-old who was strip searched by a police officer supervised by the 10th District congressional candidate:

... Chief Joyce now says Jeff Perry was a good cop. Neither Chief Joyce nor Sgt. Perry were good cops. Chief Joyce refused to investigate when my mother complained about what Flanagan did to me. Like Perry, Chief Joyce protected police officer Flanagan instead of protecting teen-aged girls from police officer Flanagan. ...

Todd Domke: It's Time For Romney To Answer Questions About Perry’s Character

The mark on Jeff Perry's record as Wareham Police officer

-On May 22, 1991, as the superior officer at a purported crime scene in Wareham, Sgt. Perry was present when Officer Scott Flanagan indecently strip searched and assaulted a 14-year-old girl

-At said time and place, Sgt. Perry was in a position to both see Flanagan's conduct and to hear the girl's loud protestations.

-There is no evidence that Perry ever reported Flanagan for his conduct with the 14-year-old girl, reprimanded him, disciplined him or took any other steps to correct him for that conduct.

Teddy can rest easy tonight.

As expected, Stephen Lynch, D-9th, voted no on the measure (Times map showing all the votes). State Rep. Jeff Perry, R-Sandwich, running to replace Bill Delahunt in the 10th district, wasted no time issuing a press release calling the measure unconstitutional.
