State rep candidate says kid with gun at South Boston High shows need for anti-bully law
By adamg - 3/25/10 - 9:15 pmMichael McGee, running to replace Brian Wallace in the 4th Suffolk district (South Boston and part of Dorchester), suggested today that that kid charged with bringing a loaded gun into the South Boston Education Complex and aiming it at pursuing cops might not have done so if the state had a strong law against bullying.
In a statement, he said:
The officers at the Odyssey High School should be commended for likely preventing a serious act of violence. This incident, however, should be seen as a wake-up call to our Boston Public schools. The main reason for kids carrying weapons to school is that they don't feel safe and feel they require protection. We have a moral obligation to ensure the safety of all our children going to school. As your State Representative, I would have supported the Anti-Bullying Bill and I will work to strengthen this law so that schools are safe havens for children, not bullies.
