Curbed, which long confined itself to covering the real-estate market south of the Bronx and north of Staten Island, has decided to cover our Fair Hub (just in time to watch the local housing bubble burst; hooray, more options for Brooklynites priced out of the City!). But they're having some trouble with the concept that Boston just doesn't have boroughs (kids, they're called "neighborhoods").

One guess what the new T-Rage blog is about. It's by a former Orange Line rider now living in Dorchester who is starting to hate the Red Line, too:

If you used to read Raymo's science essays in the Globe, check out Science Musings, which he co-authors with his son, Tom.

Jon has some interesting things to say about the state of community journalism in Boston right now. It has the makings of a blueprint for how to improve non-MSM journalism (Step 1: Stop concentrating so much on the inner workings of the New York Times). I am particularly interested in his ideas on organizing a site to become an information resource, rather than just an ever changing flow of reverse-chronological postings.

Whee!If TV reporters can stand on seawalls at the height of a nor'easter, why not citizen journalists? Holland does a video report from a local seawall - and does not get swept out to sea. But he does run across some camera mounts of reporters who just might have been.

A state Senate bill that would protect reporters from disclosing their sources includes protection for bloggers and freelance writers, Robert, who helped draft the bill for Senate President Robert Travaglini, reports:

boston.com's launched a New England travel site. Yay, boston.com. Let's see how Yankee Magazine responds.

Part of the site is MassachusettsBlogger, written by a Charlestown "supercomputer salesman" (not sure if he really sells supercomputers or he's just wicked good at selling PCs) who has such helpful tips as: Cape Cod is a really nice place to go in the summer.

Otherwise, seems to be a good portal to travel information.

John Ford of Ford Realty has started a real-estate blog. Unlike some of his colleagues, Ford not only thinks we're in the midst of a housing bubble, he thinks it's about to burst:

Jon comes up with a three-part defintion of "blogger":

... In everyday use, it is acceptable to be fuzzy with definitions. But in fields like journalism, academics, and law, to it is critical to let the audience which definition is to be used in given contexts.

Halley wonders if bloggers can sell out and still keep their souls:

Ravi has a new videoblog and is looking for guests. One caveat: You have to be willing to drive with him from JP to Allston in the morning (or from Allston to JP in the evening). See, he does DriveTime while driving to and from work. Don't worry - he's rigged up a camera mount so he mostly keeps his eyes on the road.

Some of you may recall that he was the last person to drive on the Central Artery.

Finding Ari is a new blog dedicated to tracking Boston-area street musicians. Author Sonicgrass reports:

Boston CityScene. Only has a few posts so far, and it's not even listed as live on the main CityScene site (which itself is pretty new), so maybe it's still in beta, or something. But it sorta looks to be a cross between Bostonist (sans use of the third person) and Metroblogging Boston (in fact, graphically, it looks A LOT like Metroblogging Boston; imitation must be the sincerest form of flattery). Fortunately, it looks nothing like Beantownalive.com, which looks like what you'd get if you drenched the waterfront in red paint (or blood), then shot some lightning bolts through it.

One of these is not the same:

CityScene

Blood runs in the streets!

Richard is newly arrived in Cambridge from Sweden. Naturally, one of the first things he does is read up on our quaint driving customs:

... There are entire websites dedicated to Boston traffic - check out Boston Crazy Driving for example. Here's a quote from another website: "Turn signals are a sign of weakness."

This does not bode well ...

Mark, who has run badtransit.com since 2001 as a way to try to prod the T into improving service, is nearing the end of his rope:

The time has come to ask for your help. Yes, we need financial support, but more importantly we need a core group of committed individuals who will help form, manage, and sustain our vision for Good Transit in Boston.

We intend to give this effort a limited time. If a core group cannot be formed, BadTransit will have to go off the air October 31, 2005. ...

Andy was using his Powerbook to live blog and podcast the MIT Tech Review confab today until somebody kicked his laptop:

People should wear slippers at conferences. Why do I say that? Because otherwise they trample your laptop, even if placed in safe, hidden spots, and break your AC adapter in such a way that the male plug of the adapter snaps off and jams into your laptop's power input.
