Missing: Stuffed pink leopard

A local parent is frantically searching for his daughter's Lisa Leopard, stolen out of the family mini-van last night at the Rite-Aid near Davis Square:

She has had her since she was 3 years old. This is the go-to comfort toy. No, this is her best friend. This is the thing she brought to EVERY SINGLE "show and tell" day at school for a year.

This is her Hobbes. In fact, when I introduced her to Calvin and Hobbes last year, it was as if she had written the comics in a previous life.

So as you can imagine, I have spent the last several hours in the rain inspecting every square inch within a five block radius of the crime scene. I have been trying to get into the heads of whatever stoner kids found an unlocked door, grabbed the first thing they saw, and looked inside, and realized that there was nothing worth stealing. I have gone into every trash can and made friends with the T station workers. I even chatted up a few of the downtrodden folks at the bottle redemption center.

Boston Police report arresting a Greenwood Street resident who'd allegedly finally snapped at all the parents who stop in front of his driveway to pick up kids at the school across the street.

Serious pearl clutching going on in Boston media circles today. In the Globe, one mother frets about her kids using the word "butt." In the Boston Business Journal, one father frets that his sons are now going to exclaim "suck" all the time now that they heard Tom Brady use the verb in his post-game interview:

Come on, Tom. You're better than that. For the rest of the evening my boys were going on about how Tom Brady sucked today. A bit disappointing, considering how Brady is usually a stellar role model and manages to set a great example and say all the right things. I guess I'll give him a pass on this one, surely he was caught up in the moment and was disappointed in his less than great game.

Go get 'em in the Super Bowl Tom, but remember it's not all about you.

Boston Latin Academy student with meningitis not doing well

A 12-year-old Boston Latin Academy student is "very, very, seriously, critically ill" with bacterial meningitis, but poses no risk to most other students, a city public-health official says.

A school nurse recognized symptoms of the potentially fatal disease when the seventh grader came into her office Friday not feeling well and had her rushed to a local hospital, Dr. Anita Barry, director of infection control at the Boston Public Health Commission said this morning.

Parent Imperfect says farewell to Principal Margarita Muniz and Assistant Principal Ken Larson, both of whom died this week:

At some point last night, Margarita joined Ken, probably to tell him to talk to parents about the problem of late school bus arrivals, or something else.

The School Committee recently approved a planned Margarita Muniz Academy in Jamaica Plain as the city's first bilingual public high school, in honor of Muniz's work in the 1970 to get the Hernandez opened in the 1970s as a bilingual elementary school.
